UW-La Crosse Collects Fourth Straight Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship

PLATTEVILLE, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship following two days of competition at Williams Fieldhouse on Feb. 28.
 
It is the 49th conference title in program history and 23rd in the last 24 years. UW-La Crosse accumulated 206 points, to surpass the second-place total of 163.50 points by UW-Oshkosh. UW-Eau Claire placed third with 68.50 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 57, UW-Stout fifth with 50, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 46, UW-Platteville seventh with 44 and UW-River Falls eighth with 27.
 
UW-La Crosse secured two titles during day two of the championship. Cael Schoemann won the 800-meter run for the third straight year with a time of 1:51.59, while Luke Schroeder was victorious in the 60-meter hurdles in 7.68 seconds. It was his third first-place finish in the event (2023 and 2024). Schroeder also received the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
UW-Oshkosh grabbed four titles, led by two-time champion Dylan Doss, who placed first in the 60-meter dash in 6.69 seconds and 200-meter dash in 21.48 seconds. Cameron Cullen claimed the 3,000-meter run in 8:28.39, while Gavin Fritsch emerged with the 35-pound weight throw after a fling of 68-1 (20.74m).
 
UW-River Falls’ Jacob Balcome claimed the heptathlon for the second straight year with 5,361 points, while Yaih Marial was victorious in the high jump with a height of 6-9 (2.06m).
 
UW-Stout’s Patrik Dortch won the triple jump with a leap of 46-11 3/4 (14.32m) and UW-Eau Claire’s Cameron Pease, Nick Odom, Fischer Wait and Blake Postler teamed for a first-place time of 3:18.61 in the 4x400-meter relay.
 
An All-Sportsmanship Team was announced for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each team as selected by that team. Named to the squad were:  UW-Eau Claire’s Brad Roe; UW-La Crosse’s Gaven Lange; UW-Oshkosh’s Caleb Wright; UW-Platteville’s Chris Wier; UW-River Falls’ Vincent Nash; UW-Stevens Point’s Aiden Leist; UW-Stout’s Nolan Zachgo; and UW-Whitewater’s Brandon Massman.
