Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - Feb. 2

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 26 - Feb. 1.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Collin Madson, Junior (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago), Guard of UW-Whitewater
Madson led the Warhawks in their comeback win over No. 20-ranked UW-Oshkosh on Jan. 28. He finished with 32 points, shooting 11-for-16 from the field and making five three-pointers.  Madson played the entire second half, leading the Warhawks as they overcame a 16-point deficit to defeat the Titans 101-91.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Ella Mackiewicz, Senior (Shawnee, Kan./Shawnee Mission Northwest), Guard of UW-Platteville
Mackiewicz led the Pioneers to a 60-47 win over UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 28. She scored a game-high 27 points on 9-of-18 shooting, while grabbing a team-leading eight rebounds. Mackiewicz shot 2-of-6 from beyond the arc and went 7-of-10 from the free throw line to reach her season-high in points scored. On the defensive end, Mackiewicz contributed three steals and four blocked shots.

WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS
Specialist
Hannah Hughes, Freshman (Selden, N.Y./Selden Newfield), of UW-Oshkosh
Hughes tied three Division I gymnasts atop the balance beam standings at the Southeast Missouri State University Quadrangular on Feb. 1, with a season-high score of 9.825 points. Her first-place finish helped the Titans finish second in the meet, outscoring Illinois State University and Ball State University (Ind.) with 194.525 points, the second-highest team total in program history.

Reanna McGibboney, Senior (Chester Springs, Pa./Downington East), of UW-Oshkosh
McGibboney collected a pair of top-five finishes during the Division I Southeast Missouri State University Quadrangular on Feb. 1. She helped the Titans break the program vault record (48.750) with a third-place score of 9.825 points and finished the floor exercise with 9.800 points, securing fifth place. McGibboney also scored 9.725 points on the uneven bars. The Titans scored 194.525 total points in the meet, the second-most in program history.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Dayne Hoyord, Junior (Scandinavia, Wis./SPASH), Forward of UW-Eau Claire
Hoyord helped the Blugolds capture four points on the weekend with two goals and one assist to earn UW-Eau Claire an overtime and shootout win against UW-Superior. On Jan. 30, he opened the scoring for UW-Eau Claire just three minutes into the contest. After the Yellowjackets tied the game later in the first, Hoyord assisted on the go-ahead goal in the second period. During the Jan. 31 contest, Hoyord tied the game late in the third period with his seventh goal of the season before the Blugolds went on to win in overtime. Hoyord was also +2 in the two games.

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Jayda Moyer, Freshman (Albert Lea, Minn/Albert Lea), Goalie of UW-Superior
Moyer made a barrage of saves for the Yellowjackets against UW-River Falls on Jan. 31. In a full 60 minutes, she thwarted away 51 shots from the Falcons, setting a new career-high in her young Yellowjacket career.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Preston Nygaard, Freshman (McFarland, Wis./McFarland), of UW-La Crosse
Nygaard won three individual events and was a member of a first-place relay in UW-La Crosse's dual victory over UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 31. He captured the 100-yard breaststroke (56.30 seconds) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:03.41) and 200-yard individual medley (1:58.21). Nygaard set Richard Pein Natatorium facility records in both breaststroke events, breaking the 100 record of 57.23 seconds set by UW-La Crosse's David Dettman in 2005 and the 200 record of 2:06.36 set by UW-Stevens Point's Ben Gensler in 2005. Nygaard was also on the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:34.25).

Tait Johnson, Freshman (Richfield, Minn./Richfield), of UW-Eau Claire
Johnson set a career high against UW-Whitewater on Jan. 31, as the Blugolds defeated the Warhawks 225-66. On the one-meter board, Johnson posted his career high of 278.35 points to earn first place. In addition to his individual record win, Johnson took first on the three-meter board with 260.95 points.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Erika Schroeder, Sophomore (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee), of UW-Eau Claire 
Schroeder helped the Blugolds defeat the Warhawks 229-67 with a pair of individual event wins and two relay event wins. Individually, Schroeder placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a season best 2:03.54 finals time. She also placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:14.67. In addition to her individual success, Schroeder helped the Blugolds place first in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard medley relay with splits of 25.23 and 29.98 respectively.

Martini swept the one (276.10 points) and three-meter (312.00) titles in UW-La Crosse's dual victory over UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 31. She set a school and Richard Pein Natatorium facility record in the three-meter competition, breaking the school record of 293.40 points by UW-La Crosse's Kayley Alioto in 2018 and the facility record of 290.25 by Alioto in 2018.

Caleb Beightol, Junior (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium), of UW-Whitewater
Beightol registered the second-fastest 60-meter dash time in the nation this season to win the event at the UW-Whitewater Leonard “Squig” Converse Invitational on Jan. 30. Beightol’s clocking of 6.72 seconds is just one one-hundredth off the program record.

Jack Stolte, Sophomore (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie East), of UW-Eau Claire
Stolte placed first in the men's heptathlon at the UW-Stout Warren Bowlus Open with 4,969 points. He trailed after the first event, but won the long jump and high jump to earn the first-place finish. In addition to his long jump and high jump victories, Stolte took second in the 60- meter hurdles, and third in the 60-meter dash, the shot put, the pole vault, and the 1,000- meter race. Stolte's point total ranks fifth overall in Division III and second in the WIAC.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Track
Amelia Lehman, Senior (Oshkosh, Wis./Valley Christian School), of UW-Oshkosh
Lehman broke UW-Oshkosh's indoor 3,000-meter run record during the UW-Stout Warren Bowlus Open on Jan. 31, with a time of 9:28.14. Her finish, which was also a meet and facility record, ranks first in NCAA Division III this season and 10th all-time in the division. The program record was previously held by Christy Cazzola.

Lauren Dimler, Senior (Janesville, Minn./Mankato West), of UW-Eau Claire
Dimler never trailed in the pentathlon at the UW-Stout Warren Bowlus Open on Jan. 30, taking first place in three of her five events and earning 3,484 points. She started the day with a 9.15 second finish in the 60-meter hurdles, earning 879 points. Despite finishing second in the high jump, Dimler maintained her spot at the top with a 34-2 1/4 (10.42m) throw in the shot put. In the penultimate event, Dimler placed first in the long jump with a mark of 17-6 1/4 (5.34m). Lauren finished off her multi-event with a 2:27.20 in the 800-meter run to finish as the top performer of the nine-athlete field. Dimler's point total ranks fourth in Division III and first in the WIAC.

Temple posted 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-2 wins over Concordia University (Wis.) and University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.), respectively, as the Pointers opened spring play on Jan. 31.

WRESTLING
Carson Trotzer, Senior (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest), 174 pounds of UW-Stevens Point
Trotzer won the Wheaton College (Ill.) Pete Willson Invitational at 174 pounds and was voted Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament. Trotzer, the No. 6 seed, had a major decision and three falls, including the finals over the No. 1 seed. He finished ahead of three nationally ranked wrestlers, helping the team to a top-10 finish.
