Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - Jan. 26

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 19 - 25.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Sam Grieger, Junior (Randolph, Wis./Randolph), Guard of UW-La Crosse
Grieger averaged 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals in two UW-La Crosse victories during the week. He finished with 21 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block in a 72-50 win at UW-Stout on Jan. 21. Grieger totaled 29 points, including 17 in the second half, along with five rebounds, four assists and two steals in an 80-77 victory over No. 23-ranked UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 24. He was 15-of-16 at the free throw line for the week.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Zoey Buchan, Senior (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston), Guard of UW-River Falls
Coming off a week in which she surpassed 1,000 points in her career, Buchan followed up with 16.0 points per game to lead the Falcons to a pair of WIAC wins over UW-Stevens Point and No. 18-ranked UW-Platteville, shooting 9-of-19 from the field and 13-of-15 at the free throw line, along with eight rebounds, nine assists, and three steals. Against the Pointers on Jan. 21 at Page Arena, she totaled 19 points and was 6-for-6 at free throw line. On Jan. 24 in Platteville, she added 13 points of 50 percent shooting from the field, guiding UW-River Falls to a 62-60 victory over the Pioneers.

WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS
Specialist
Juliette Rider, Freshman (San Antonio, Texas/Acellus Academy), of UW-Whitewater
Rider won the vault at a Division I quad hosted by California State University, Sacramento on Jan. 23. Her 9.850 is the best vault score for a Division III gymnast this season and ranks third in program history. Rider’s top mark also helped the Warhawks break the program record on vault as a team with a total of 48.600.

Multi-Event
Paige Breckwoldt, Junior (Huntersville, N.C./Huntersville Hopewell), of UW-La Crosse
Breckwoldt helped lead the Eagles to a meet win over Simpson College (Iowa) with two individual event titles. First, Breckwoldt won the vault with a score of 9.750. Then on the floor exercise, Breckwoldt again scored a 9.750 to claim the individual event title.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Easton Inglis, Sophomore (Okotoks, Alberta), Forward of UW-Eau Claire
Inglis led the Blugolds to a sweep of Beloit College (Wis.) with a five-point series. On Jan. 23, he netted UW-Eau Claire's second and seventh goal of the game, while assisting on the fourth goal, as the Blugolds posted a 7-2 victory. On Jan. 24, Easton opened the game with a powerplay goal in the second period and then tied the game at 2-2 in the third as UW-Eau Claire defeated the Buccaneers 3-2.

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Adrienne Hansen, Sophomore (Monticello, Minn./Monticello), Forward of UW-Eau Claire
Hansen recorded a four-point weekend as the Blugolds completed the regular-season sweep of UW-Superior. After assisting UW-Eau Claire's second goal of the game on Jan. 23, Hansen extended the Blugolds' lead to 3-1 in the second period with her eighth goal of the season. On Jan. 24, Hansen recorded her ninth and 10th goals of the season as she opened the scoring in the first period for UW-Eau Claire just three minutes into the game. Adrienne tallied her eighth multi-point game of the year with her second goal of the game in the second period, helping the Blugolds post the 5-0 victory.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Preston Nygaard, Freshman (McFarland, Wis./McFarland), of UW-La Crosse
Nygaard won three events and was a member of two first-place relays in helping lead UW-La Crosse to the team title at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Jan. 23-24. He captured the 100-yard breaststroke (55.47 seconds) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:00.06), and 200-yard individual medley (1:55.08). Nygaard was also on the winning 400-yard medley relay (3:24.11) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:10.27). He set school records in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, breaking Adam Baryenbruch's record of 55.54 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke set in 2021 and Ben Collins' record of 2:03.21 in the 200-yard breaststroke set in 2025. He also set a UW-Stevens Point Aquatics Center facility record, breaking the time of 55.74 seconds set by William Buhler of UW-Stevens Point in 2021. His time in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke both rank first on the WIAC Honor Roll.

Diving
Declan Trant, Junior (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove), of UW-Stevens Point
Trant finished atop of the three-meter dive with a score of 472.60 at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Jan. 23.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Ava Pulvermacher, Sophomore (Madison, Wis./Madison West), of UW-La Crosse
Pulvermacher won three events and was a member of two first-place relays in helping lead UW-La Crosse to the team title at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Jan. 23-24. She captured the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.67) and 400-yard individual medley (4:42.52) and 200-yard butterfly (2:14.44). Pulvermacher was also on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.44) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:37.55).  Her time in the 200-yard individual medley ranks first on the WIAC Honor Roll.

Hannah Martini, Senior (Muskego, Wis./Muskego), of UW-La Crosse
Martini swept the one- (393.40 points) and three-meter (439.65) diving titles in helping lead UW-La Crosse to the team title at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Jan. 23-24.

MEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Track
Luke Schroeder, Senior (Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon), of UW-La Crosse
In his first meet of the indoor season, Schroeder competed in both the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash. In the 60-meter hurdles, he ran a time of 7.82 seconds in the prelims. This time is the fastest time so far this season in NCAA Division III. He just missed his own school record of 7.80 seconds. Then in the 200-meter dash, Schroeder won the event with a time of 21.61 seconds (21.23 seconds banked track time). Schroeder's time is the second fastest time ran so far this season in NCAA Division III.

For the second time in as many weeks, Kao broke the Titans’ indoor pole vault record during the Ripon College Red Hawk Opener on Jan. 23. He won the event with a best height of 16-10 3/4 (5.15m), which leads the WIAC and ranks second in NCAA Division III this season.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Track
Izzy Peterson, Senior (Lexington, Ky./Roosevelt), of UW-Platteville
Peterson won the 60- and 200- meter dash at the WIAC Triangular hosted by UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 24, breaking a pair of school records in the process. In the 60-meter trails, Peterson started her day running 7.60 seconds, followed by a 7.57 seconds time in the finals. That time was a .10 second personal best and currently ranks second in the NCAA Division III Indoor National List. She then closed her day by running a .49 second personal best in the 200-meter dash of 24.33 seconds. That time is the 10th-best in NCAA Division III history, and currently ranks first in national list.

Zastrow won the pole vault at the UW-La Crosse Pat Healy Classic with a vault of 13-5 3/4 (4.11m).  That vault ranks first in the conference and NCAA Division III, and set the meet record, facility record, and UW-Stout school record. The vault also ranks 10th indoors in NCAA Division III history.

MEN’S TENNIS
Singles
Carter Michaels, Freshman (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan), of UW-Whitewater
Michaels went 2-0 in the Warhawks' two duals on Jan. 24. Against Milwaukee School of Engineering, he clinched the match point at the No. 4 singles flight with a 6-4, 6-4 victory. In the Warhawks' second match of the day against Carroll University (Wis.), Michaels won the No. 3 singles flight (6-4, 6-1).

Doubles

Michaels and Billson went 2-0 in the Warhawks' two duals on Jan. 24. The pair defeated the top duo from Milwaukee School of Engineering 6-3. Against Carroll University (Wis.), Billson and Michaels were able to secure the doubles point for UW-Whitewater by defeating the Pioneers' top pair 6-1.

WRESTLING
Landon Church, Junior (Jordan, Minn./Scott West), 149 pounds of UW-Eau Claire
Church went 2-0 against regionally ranked opponents during the week, helping the Blugolds secure two WIAC wins. UW-Eau Claire was victorious over UW-Stevens Point and UW-Platteville. On Jan. 22, Church defeated the No. 2 regionally ranked Riese Thornberry from UW-Stevens Point by a 19-7 major decision. On Jan. 25, Church beat No. 3 regionally ranked Luke Kamish from UW-Platteville by a 12-2 major decision.
