Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - Nov. 24

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 17 - 23.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Sam Grieger, Junior (Randolph, Wis./Randolph), Guard of UW-La Crosse
Grieger was named the MVP of the Wheaton College (Ill.) Lee Pfund Classic as UW-La Crosse captured the tournament title. He averaged 22.5 points, 6.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in two games. Grieger had 15 points, six rebounds, six assists, one steal and one block in an 84-73 win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.) on Nov. 21. He then finished with 30 points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals in a 70-66 victory over Wheaton (Ill.) in the championship game on Nov. 22. Grieger shot 56.3 percent (18-of-32) from the field for the week.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Kyla Overskei, Senior (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), Guard of UW-Eau Claire
Overskei led the Blugolds to two wins during the week, while setting a career record and defeating the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) and Simpson College (Iowa). She established a personal single-game record on with 32 points, while shooting 57.1 percent from the field against the Saints. While averaging 28.5 points and shooting 48.8 percent between the two games, Overskei led the Blugolds from beyond the arc with five 3-pointers in each game and went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. In the paint, Overskei averaged four rebounds a game and added three assists. During her personal best game against St. Scholastica, Kyla recorded zero turnovers.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Max Gutjahr, Senior (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly), Goalie of UW-Eau Claire
Gutjahr and the Blugolds began WIAC play with two victories during the week. On Nov. 21, Gutjahr shut out No. 14-ranked UW-Superior with 20 saves. Gutjahr followed up his second shutout of the season with 22 saves and a win over UW-Stout on Nov. 22. Gutjahr is 3-2-1 on the year and currently leads the WIAC in save percentage (.942) and goals against average (1.48).

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Madisyn Krumholz, Junior (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville), Forward of UW-Eau Claire
Krumholz led the Blugold offense on Nov. 22, defeating No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls at Hobbs Ice Arena. With two goals and an assist, Krumholz and UW-Eau Claire secured their second WIAC win of the season. After two scoreless periods, Krumholz opened the scoring early in the third period with her third goal of the season. Just five minutes later, Krumholz assisted on UW-Eau Claire's second goal for a 2-0 lead. She sealed the victory with an empty net goal in the final minute, putting the Blugolds at the top of the conference standings.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Caleb Weis, Junior (Burlington, Wis./Burlington), of UW-Whitewater
Weis was the Warhawks’ top scorer at the Luther College (Iowa) Invitational held Nov. 21-22. He won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:47.94 – ranked second in the WIAC this season. Weis also claimed gold in the 1,650-yard freestyle registering a conference-leading time of 16:41.15. He posted the sixth-fastest time in the WIAC in the prelims of the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.79 before finishing sixth in the finals. Weis was also a member of the fourth-place 800-yard freestyle relay squad.

Trant took the one- and three-meter dives with scores of 318.70 and 327.60, respectively against UW-Eau Claire on Nov. 22.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Hailey Vogel, Freshman (Rockwell City, Iowa/Fort Dodge), of UW-Whitewater
Vogel was the top scorer for the Warhawks at the Luther College (Iowa) Invitational held Nov. 21-22. She registered the top time in the WIAC to win the 100-yard breaststroke – 1:05.52, a mark that ranks third in program history. She posted the second-fastest 100-yard freestyle time in the conference this season – 54.12 seconds – in the prelims before finishing eighth in the finals. Vogel’s 50-yard freestyle time of 24.98 seconds was seventh at the meet and is tied for sixth in the conference this season. Additionally, she was a member of the 200-yard medley relay (second place), 200-yard freestyle relay (third place), 400-yard freestyle relay (fourth place) and 400-yard medley relay (sixth place).

Maya Indiraraj, Senior (West Bend, Wis./West Bend West), of UW-Oshkosh
Indiraraj took both diving events in the Titans home non-conference win over Lake Forest College (Ill.) on Nov. 22. She won the one-meter diving with a score of 212.95 points and tallied 222.85 points on the three-meter board.

WRESTLING
Mycah Beckett, Freshman (De Pere, Wis./De Pere), 141 pounds of UW-La Crosse
Beckett captured the 141-pound title with a 3-0 record at the Augsburg University (Minn.) Auggie Open on Nov. 22, earning all three wins by fall. After a first round bye, he won by fall (:48) over Chase Smith of Augsburg in the quarterfinals and by fall (1:32) over Aiden Downing of Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.) in the semifinals. He won the title with a fall (:40) over Logan McDonald of Iowa Lakes Community College.
