UW-Stout Leads Women’s Golf Championship

REEDSBURG, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stout has the lead following the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Reedsburg Country Club on Oct. 3.
 
The Blue Devils compiled 304 strokes during the first 18 holes on the Par 72 layout. UW-Whitewater - the winner of the last eight conference championships - is second with 323 strokes, UW-Eau Claire is third with 324, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 326, UW-La Crosse fifth with 327, UW-Oshkosh sixth with 331 and UW-Platteville and UW-River Falls are tied for seventh with 339.
 
UW-Stout’s Julia Imai, the defending individual champion, owns the lead in the 79-player field with 74 strokes. UW-La Crosse’s Haley Thoeny, UW-Stout’s Ashleigh Johnson and UW-hitewater’s Payton Schmidt are tied for second with 75 strokes. UW-Platteville’s Taylor Swalve is fifth with 76 strokes. UW-Eau Claire’s Lilly Kaminski and UW-Stout’s Sarah Chaffee are tied for sixth with 77 strokes, while UW-Eau Claire’s Tally Schlindwein, UW-Stevens Point’s Kate Downie and UW-Stout’s Brin Neumann and tied for eighth with 78 strokes.
 
The team winner will earn the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be held May 19-22, 2026, at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, Calif.
 
The 54-hole championship will resume Oct. 4, with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m.
