MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Xavier Lasee, Junior (Fond du Lac, Wis./North), of UW-Platteville Lasee won the Warhawk Open on Oct. 20, running a personal-best time of 26:57.7 in the 8,000-meter race. (Whitefish Bay) WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY Brooklyn Luebke, Sophomore (Maribel, Wis./Manitowoc Lincoln), of UW-La Crosse Luebke won the individual title in helping lead UW-La Crosse to a dual victory at Luther College (Iowa) on Oct. 20. She completed the 5,000-meter course in 19:42.0, an improvement of :18 from last year. A total of 28 runners completed the race. Also nominated: UW-Whitewater, Abby Motz, Freshman, New Berlin, Wis. (Eisenhower) FOOTBALL Offense Alec Ogden, Senior (Marshall, Wis./Monona Grove), Quarterback of UW-Whitewater Ogden led No. 5-ranked UW-Whitewater to a 37-20 win over UW-Stout on Oct. 21. He was 23-of-40 for 281 yards and a pair of passing touchdowns. Ogden added another 90 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground. For the game, he accounted for 371 total yards of offense and four touchdowns, while reaching the 1,000 passing yard milestone for the season. He recorded three tackles for loss and one sack, while breaking up one pass and recovering a fumble. Bacon found his way into the end zone late in the third quarter on a 20-yard scoop-and-score to increase the UW-Platteville lead to 40-14. (Pinnacle) WOMEN’S SOCCER Offense Hailey Kane, Junior (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port), Defender of UW-Stout Haliey scored four goals and had an assist in two games during the week. She recorded her first career hat-trick in a 4-2 road win over UW-Whitewater on Oct. 21. She was instrumental in all four goals, with three goals and an assist on four shots on goal to lift the Blue Devils to their first win over UW-Whitewater since 2011. She scored UW-Stout’s lone goal against No. 11-ranked UW-La Crosse on Oct. 18 (just the sixth goal UW-La Crosse has conceded all season). After playing at defense all season, Kane made a position change this week and in her past two games, she has four goals on six shots on goal. (Prospect) Defense Sydney Halstead, Senior (Wauwatosa, Wis./East), of UW-La Crosse Halstead, playing on Senior Night, scored a pair of goals in UW-La Crosse's 3-0 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 21. Her game-winning goal at 11:58 came off a Claire Cater corner kick. Halstead added her second goal at 25:05 off another corner kick from Maggie Hernandez. Halstead helped UW-La Crosse clinch the WIAC regular-season title with the win. She had four shots in two matches during the week, including three on goal. (Central) MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING Swimming Hunter Hayberger, Senior (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky), of UW-Whitewater At the Wisconsin Showcase on Oct. 21, Hayberger placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.45 – the second-fastest time for a Division III swimmer in the field. He was the top Division III finisher in the 500-yard freestyle with a fifth-place overall time of 4:58.98. Hayberger is now ranked second in the 200-yard freestyle and first in the 500-yard freestyle in the WIAC Top Times list. Also nominated: UW-La Crosse, Jesse Hammes, Sophomore, Sun Prairie, Wis. (North) WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING Swimming Francesca Schiro, Junior (New Glarus, Wis./New Glarus), of UW-Oshkosh Schiro led the Titans with three top-three finishes at the Wisconsin Showcase on Oct. 21. She took second in both the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle events, finishing in 54.23 seconds and 1:56.94, respectively. The meet featured UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, Carthage College (Wis.), Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.), St. Norbert College (Wis.), UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater. WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL Offense Jenna Weinfurt, Senior (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial), Outside Hitter of UW-Whitewater Weinfurt led the Warhawks offensively during the week. Averaging 5.00 kills per set, Weinfurt hammered down 16 against Concordia University (Wis.) on Oct. 17. She reached the 1,000-career kill milestone with her final kill in that match. She wrapped up the week with 14 kills against UW-Stout on Oct. 20. In the pair of sweeps, Weinfurt registered 30 kills, hitting .324. She added an ace, 21 digs and five blocks. She hit .476 and recorded 13 kills to start the week in a loss to Coe College (Iowa), but was strong the net against UW-Stevens Point and Cornell College (Iowa). McDonald tallied three solo blocks and two block assists in the win over the Pointers on Oct. 20, before adding another three solo blocks and seven block assists in the loss to Cornell on Oct. 21.
