UW-La Crosse Grabs Advantage At Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship

WHITEWATER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse jumped out to a big lead after the first day of competition at the 2019 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Kachel Fieldhouse on Feb. 22.
 
The Eagles, who have won 17 consecutive championships, have amassed 83.50 points through the first seven scored events. UW-Eau Claire is second with 45.50 points, UW-Stout third with 41, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 37, UW-Platteville fifth with 27, UW-Whitewater sixth with 26, UW-Stevens Point seventh with 12 and UW-River Falls eighth with 1.

Three individuals successfully defended their titles from a season ago. UW-Platteville’s Zach Lee won the one-mile run with a time of 4:08.89, while UW-La Crosse’s Thomas Schultz claimed the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:40.72. UW-Whitewater’s Zach Jasinski posted a first-place height of 16-1 3/4 in the pole vault.
 
UW-Eau Claire’s David Kornack secured the shot put for the second time in his career with a heave of 62-11 1/4. He also won the event at the 2017 championship.
  
The two-day championship will resume on Feb. 23, with events starting at 10:00 am.
