Student-Athlete Spotlight: Molly Garber, UW-Stout

Each week during the 2025-26 academic year, the WIAC will feature two student-athletes (one male and one female) from one of its eight institutions for a “Student-Athlete Spotlight” Q & A segment. The segments will be posted every Thursday and individuals are selected by the institution. The WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlights are presented by Culver's.

Name:  Molly Garber
Institution:  UW-Stout
Hometown and High School:  Blaine Minn. (Blaine High School)
Year in school:  Junior
Sports:  Basketball and Tennis
Majors:  Plastics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering
Minor:  Biomedical Instrumentations

Why did you choose UW-Stout?
I chose UW-Stout because of its strong emphasis on hands on learning, small class sizes, and the close-knit campus environment. The lab focused approach allows me to apply concepts in real, practical settings, which is especially important in engineering. Smaller classes also give me the opportunity to build relationships with professors and stay actively engaged. Additionally, the size of the town creates a focused, supportive atmosphere that helps me balance academics, athletics, and personal growth.

What other clubs/organizations on campus are you involved in?
I am a member of the Society of Women’s Engineers and the Vice President of the Society of Plastics Engineers.

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
What I enjoy most about competing in the WIAC and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete is the balance between high-level competition and academics. I’m able to challenge myself in a rigorous engineering program while still competing at a competitive level in the sports I love.
