Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - March 9

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of March 2 - 8.

BASEBALL
Position

Charley Rowan, Sophomore (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater), Infield of UW-La Crosse
Rowan led the Eagles' offense during the week as they went 1-2. In a 2-1 loss to North Park University (Ill.) on March 6, Rowan went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases. On March 7, Rowan finished 3-for-5 with a stolen base in UW-La Crosse's 9-5 loss to Webster University (Mo.). UW-La Crosse defeated Buena Vista University (Iowa), 11-0 on March 8, as Rowan went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base. Rowan finished the week 7-for-12 (.583 batting average) with three runs, one walk and four stolen bases in four attempts.

Pitcher
Connor Walters, Senior (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville), Pitcher of UW-Oshkosh
Walters threw the first six innings of the Titans’ 13th no-hitter on March 5. UW-Oshkosh’s offense added 10 runs in the first seven innings to secure the run-rule win over Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.). Walters fanned seven Cobbers, including three in the fifth inning, while allowing four walks. Joe Richardson came in as relief in the seventh inning and added another strikeout.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Offense
Kayli Starkey, Junior (Lakeville, Min./Lakeville South), Midfielder of Hamline University
Starkey had eight goals and 12 assists in two games played during the week. Her shooting percentage was above .800 in both games. Starkey broke the Hamline single-game assist record and single-game points record against Edgewood University (Wis.) on March 8, with nine assists and 13 points.

Defense
Cassidy Schnaufer, Senior (Williston Park, N.Y. (Mineola), Goalie of Colorado College
Schnaufer earned two wins in net for the Tigers against Kenyon College (Ohio) and No. 16-ranked St. John Fisher University (N.Y.). She made 17 saves and allowed only 7.5 goals per game. Against Kenyon on March 5, Schnaufer allowed only five goals and made eight saves. She then made a season-high nine saves two days later against the Cardinals. Schnaufer also had a caused turnover.

SOFTBALL
Position
Kaitlyn Roberts, Junior (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville), Outfield of UW-Stevens Point
Roberts had a career game in UW-Stevens Point’s win over Millikin University (Ill.) to open the Millikin Invitational on March 7. She hit two home runs and drove in five, both career highs. Roberts was 3-for-3 and drew a walk against the Big Blue in the weekend opener. She got two more hits, including a double, in the nightcap against Coe College (Iowa). On March 8, she drew two walks against Coe and had two more hits against Millikin. For the week, she went 7-for-12 with two home runs, two doubles, five RBI, two runs scored, three walks and a stolen base.

Kiran Sanford, Freshman (Two Rivers, Wis./Mishicot), Pitcher of UW-Oshkosh
Sanford tossed a complete game one-hitter during the second game of the Titans’ doubleheader shutout sweep of St. Norbert College (Wis.) at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex Dome on March 7. In her third collegiate start, Sanford struck out 18 Green Knights and fanned three in four innings. Her 18 strikeouts are tied for second-most in a single game in WIAC history.

MEN’S TENNIS
West Division - Singles
Aiden Meixl, Freshman (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly), of UW-La Crosse
Meixl earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles over UW-Eau Claire's Billy Hughes in the Eagles' 4-3 dual victory on March 7.

West Division - Doubles
Danylo Ripeckyj, Freshman (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial) & Pablo Rincon, Junior (Bogotá, Colombia), of UW-Eau Claire
Ripeckyj and Rincon won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles against UW-La Crosse's Jack Hehli and Tyler Schneier on March 7. The duo stormed out to a commanding 4-0 lead before closing the match in the next four games as the lone doubles pair to beat the Eagles.
