UW-La Crosse Wins NCAA Men’s Cross Country North Regional; WIAC Finishes 1-2-3

COLFAX, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won the NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country North Regional for the second straight year at Whitetail Golf Course on Nov. 15, to lead a trio of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) teams that placed 1-2-3.

UW-La Crosse compiled 30 points for the eighth regional title in program history. UW-Stevens Point finished second with 110 points and UW-Platteville third with 120 points. UW-La Crosse earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship.

Additional finishes by WIAC teams included: UW-Whitewater fifth with 166 points; UW-Eau Claire sixth with 173; UW-Oshkosh seventh with 236; UW-Stout eighth with 277; and UW-River Falls 10th with 319. A total of 31 teams competed in the regional event that was hosted by UW-Eau Claire.

Mohammad Bati of Augsburg University (Minn.) secured the individual title with a time of 24:23.7 to pace a field of 209 runners on the 8,000-meter course. UW-La Crosse’s Grant Matthai was the top WIAC finisher, placing second in 24:29.4. Teammates Aidan Matthai and Jayden Zywicki were third (24:33.2) and fourth (24:34.9), respectively.
