UW-La Crosse Claims Women’s Tennis Championship

EAU CLAIRE, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse secured at least a share of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) women’s tennis regular-season championship with a 7-0 victory over UW-Eau Claire at the John & Fay Menard Tennis Center on Oct. 10.
 
It is the 16th regular-season title in program history and first since the 2006 campaign. UW-La Crosse (7-0 overall, 5-0 WIAC) can claim the championship outright with a victory over UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 14. UW-Whitewater can earn a share of the title with wins in its remaining matches against UW-Stout and UW-River Falls on Oct. 18.
 
The Eagles also secured the No. 1 seed for the WIAC Tournament that will be held in the spring to determine the conference’s NCAA automatic qualifier. The six-team event will be held April 21, 23 and 25, with the highest seeded team in each match serving as the host.
 
Against UW-Eau Claire (5-3, 3-3), UW-La Crosse won two of the three doubles matches to earn the team point. Hannah Cady/Maia Samuelson earned a 6-3 victory at No. 2, while Lily Jorgenson/Caitlyn Stadter picked up a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. 

The Eagles swept the six singles matches. Tasha Bailey (No. 1), Shelby Roth (No. 2), Lauren Lindow (No. 4), Lily Jorgenson (No. 5) and Hannah Cady (No. 6) earned wins in straight sets while Caitlyn Stadter (No. 3) won in three sets.
