Student-Athlete Spotlight: Nolan Hertel, UW-La Crosse

Each week during the 2022-23 academic year, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) will feature two student-athletes (one male and one female) from one of its eight institutions for a “Student-Athlete Spotlight” Q & A segment. Why did you choose UW-La Crosse?
I chose UWL because of the sense of community I felt on my visit. The University does a great job of taking care of their students, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to come to a place where I could also pursue my athletic career.
 
What causes do you care about?
Conserving the environment for future generations.

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
I like that I have been able to write my own story through academics and sports. Being a student-athlete has also helped me form many relationships with my peers, teammates, and coaches.

2022 NWCA Dual Champions, as well as becoming an NCAA Division III All-America in 2022.

Play ultimate football on campus or play euchre.

What is your dream job? 
Winning the lottery and not having to work.
 
Three things on your "bucket list"?
---Skydive.
---Big-game hunt (Moose, Bear, or Elk).
---Vacation in Europe.
 
A non-athletic talent that you have is?
I am very good at quoting movies. Mostly comedy films.

Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they?
Always have to get a cup of coffee that Coach Malecek brews, preferably Folgers.
