Women's Tennis 10/24/2022 3:33:01 PM UW-Whitewater’s Day Named Judy Kruckman Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Courtney Day has been selected the recipient of the 2022 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete Award. A senior from Oshkosh, Wis. (North), Day boasts a 4.00 grade point average and is majoring in integrated science and business with a minor in information technology. She is a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete, receiving the honor in 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22, as well as a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Day has been named to UW-Whitewater’s Dean’s List numerous semesters and received academic scholarships. Day won the No. 3 doubles title at the WIAC championship this year to help the Warhawks to the team crown for the 16th straight season. She was also the No. 3 doubles champion in 2019. At the 2021 WIAC championship, she finished as the runner-up at No. 5 singles and took third at No. 2 doubles. During the 2020-21 academic year, Day was selected to the All-WIAC first team at No. 3 doubles. She owns a career doubles record of 57-24. Day is a member of UW-Whitewater’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, as well as Delight Ministries. Earlier this year, she was an intern with Exact Sciences as an Inside Sales Representative. She has volunteered at Evergreen Retirement Community from 2019-21. Day has served as a tutor in the campus Information Technology department and as a camp counselor for UW-Whitewater Tennis Camps. Also nominated for this year’s scholar-athlete award were: UW-La Crosse’s Kellie Hierl (Sr., Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac); UW-River Falls’ Kailey Courteau (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn./Park); UW-Stevens Point Jenna Koepp (Sr., Watertown, Wis./Watertown); and UW-Stout’s Lauren Couves (Sr., Ames, Iowa/Ames). The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman, who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October, 1984 - September, 1996. Kruckman was the women’s athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971. In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years. The award is based on academic achievements, athletics accomplishments and involvement in other campus activities, organizations and community service projects. # # # # #
