UW-La Crosse Wins Women’s Tennis Tournament Title

LA CROSSE, Wis.
--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Tennis Tournament (presented by Culver’s) with a 4-3 victory over UW-Whitewater at Green Island Tennis Park on April 25.

The Eagles (20-2 overall) earned the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship. UW-La Crosse secures its second appearance in program history in the national tournament with the first coming in 2001. UW-Whitewater had won 17 straight women’s tennis tournament titles.

UW-La Crosse earned the doubles point over UW-Whitewater (12-8) after earning a pair of wins. Hannah Cady & Lily Jorgenson defeated Crystina Lee & Cassie Lee at No. 2 doubles (6-2), while Maia Samuelson & Caitlyn Stadter beat Alex Repplier & Molly Asfeld at No. 3 (6-1). The match at No. 1 doubles between UW-La Crosse's Tasha Bailey & Shelby Roth and UW-Whitewater's Gracie Ha & Abigail Weaver was not completed.

The Eagles claimed the dual victory with three singles wins. Bailey defeated Weaver at No. 1 (2-6, 7-6, 6-1), Jorgenson beat Crystina Lee at No. 4 (2-6, 6-2, 6-1) and Lauren Lindow defeated Kaitlyn Remke at No. 5 (7-6, 6-2). Jorgenson gave UW-La Crosse a 3-2 lead with her win while Bailey came back from a set down to force a 3-3 tie. Lindow earned the final team point with her victory.

UW-Whitewater earned victories with Ha defeating Roth at No. 2 (7-5, 6-2), Asfeld beating Stadter at No. 3 (6-4, 6-4) and Ashley Adkisson defeating Cady at No. 6 (6-3, 7-6).
