Student-Athlete Spotlight: Michael Sieber, UW-River Falls

Why did you choose UW-River Falls?
I chose UW-River Falls because it’s close to home but far enough away at the same time, smaller campus and fishing opportunities on campus.
 
What other clubs/organizations on campus are you involved in?
Theta Chi fraternity

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
What I like most about competing in the WIAC is that the WIAC schools are close to home so my family can come watch me compete. I also really like that the WIAC is a respected conference with such great talent. It’s so fun to be a part of. I get to watch all sorts of records get broken often. You don’t see this type of talent as much in other conferences in Division III. Being a Division III student-athlete means so much to me. Especially since I came from a small school. It wasn’t expected of anyone from my high school to attend college, let alone continue sports in college after high school. So, for me, being a NCAA Division III student-athlete makes me feel accomplished. Every week I get the opportunity to practice/compete as a UW-River Falls athlete while obtaining my degrees.

Do you have any words of advice for younger/upcoming student-athletes?
Use your time wisely, as a student-athlete you have less free time than the average student, so make sure you’re using it well.

Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they?
I always have a banana or two before track meets. It just doesn’t feel right if I don’t have a banana.
