Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - April 13

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of April 6 - 12.

BASEBALL
Position
Brady Burrill, Junior (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc), Outfield of UW-La Crosse
Burrill helped lead the Eagles to a 6-2 week, including sweeps over UW-Stout and UW-Platteville. For the week, Burrill hit .394 with a .472 on base percentage, two home runs, two doubles, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored. He was also a perfect 12-for-12 on stolen bases, including two games with three. In game one against UW-Platteville, he was 4-for-4 with two home runs, five RBIs and a stolen base.

Pitcher
AJ Curtis, Sophomore (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North), Pitcher of UW-La Crosse
Curtis made two starts on the week, going 1-0. In the Eagles extra inning loss to UW-Whitewater, Curtis threw eight shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six. Against UW-Stout on April 11, Curtis threw a complete game in UW-La Crosse’s 7-1 win. He allowed just one run on three hits and two walks while striking out eight. For the week, Curtis allowed just one run on five hits while striking out 14 in 17 innings of work.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Offense
Samantha Hayek, Senior (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake), Attack of UW-River Falls
Hayek became UW-River Falls’ all-time leading goal scorer with her 156th career goal in a win over UW-Stout, surpassing Emma Kohlbeck’s previous record of 152 (2019–22). Earlier in the week, she also eclipsed the 100-career assist milestone against UW-Eau Claire. Hayek powered the Falcon offense during a 2-0 week in WIAC play, totaling 15 points on nine goals and six assists. She added 20 shots with 16 on goal, posting an .800 shot-on-goal percentage.

Plath anchored the UW-River Falls defense in a 2-0 week, contributing 10 ground balls, nine draw controls, and four caused turnovers. In addition, Plath added two goals and helped limit opponents to just 10 total goals on the week.

SOFTBALL
Position
Paige Lathrop, Senior (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee), Outfield of UW-Eau Claire
Lathrop helped the Blugolds go 3-1 on the week as UW-Eau Claire swept University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) and split with No. 16-ranked UW-Oshkosh. Lathrop went 7-for-12 from the plate, including batting 1.000 against Northwestern in the first game of the non-conference doubleheader. She recorded 5 RBI and a double on the week, while slugging at .667. Lathrop scored four runs and was 100% on steal attempts with her six stolen bases.

Pitcher
Kasey Felden, Freshman (Franklin, Wis./Franklin), Pitcher of UW-Eau Claire
Felden went 2-0 during the week, throwing a combined 13 scoreless innings against No. 16-ranked UW-Oshkosh and the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.). On April 8, Felden pitched six straight scoreless innings and then reentered in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded to strikeout two Eagles and secure the 3-1 win. On April 11, she kept the Titans off the scoreboard for seven straight innings, pitching the entire game, and sealing the 3-0 win in the top of the 7th as the weather turned to constant rain. Saturday's 3-0 victory was Felden's first career complete game shutout as she tallied five strikeouts and recorded 119 pitches with 71 of them being strikes.

West Division - Singles
Tyler Schneider, Sophomore (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay), of UW-La Crosse
Schneider went 2-0 at No. 1 singles during the week. He earned a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) win over Igor Guetten Chaves of UW-Superior on April 11 and a 6-0, 6-4 victory against Mateo Torre of The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) on April 12.

Schneider and Aranda earned a pair of victories at No. 3 doubles during the week. The duo won 6-4 over Keanu Lin/Blake Haugen of UW-Superior on April 11 and added a 6-3 victory Andy Shaffer/Timon Herrmann of The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) on April 12.

Thomas won both of his matches in straight sets at No. 1 singles, taking down Tichi Chialva 6-1, 6-3 in the Lions' 7-0 sweep at No. 49-ranked Washington College (Md.) before cruising past Shayaan Farhad of Moravian College (Pa.) by a 6-2, 6-2 line in a 6-1 victory on April 12.

Harrison Maitland-Carter, Senior (Toronto, Ontario/Saddlebrook Prep. – Fla.) & Asa Wong, Senior (Johns Creek, Ga./William & Reed Academy), of The College of New Jersey
Maitland-Carter and Wong went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles against No. 49-ranked Washington College (Md.) and Moravian College (Pa.). They defeated Petter Storberg and Demir Isiker, 6-3, at Washington College on April 11, before dominating Moravian's top tandem by a 6-1 count on April 12.

MEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Track
Luke Schroeder, Senior (Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon), of UW-La Crosse
In not great weather conditions at the Bethel University (Minn.) Invitational, Schroeder ran a time of 13.84 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. This time breaks a 20-year old UW-La Crosse record of 13.98 seconds. His time ranks first on the WIAC Honor Roll and third on the NCAA Division III Honor Roll.

WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Track
Izzy Peterson, Senior (Lexington, Ky./Roosevelt), of UW-Platteville
Peterson won the 100-meter dash at the UW-Platteville Invitational. In the trials of the 100-meter dash, she ran 11.77 seconds on her way to winning in the finals. That time broke her own school record and currently ranks first in the WIAC and fifth on the NCAA Division Honor Roll. Peterson also helped the 4x100-meter relay to a third-place finish, establishing the third-best time in program history.
