UW-Whitewater Leads Women’s Golf Championship

REEDSBURG, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has the lead following the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Reedsburg Country Club on Oct. 9.
 
The Warhawks compiled 308 strokes during the first 18 holes – that featured a 1 hour 40 minute lightning delay – on the Par 72 layout. Defending champion UW-Stout Polytechnic is second with 310 strokes, UW-Eau Claire third with 314, UW-La Crosse fourth with 320, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 333, UW-River Falls sixth with 345, UW-Oshkosh seventh with 347, and UW-Platteville eighth with 357.
 
UW-Whitewater’s Delainey Halverson owns the individual lead in the 74-player field with 74 strokes. UW-La Crosse’s Haley Thoney, UW-River Falls’ Megan Bermejo and UW-Stout Polytechnic’s Julia Imai – the two-time individual champion – are tied for second with 75 strokes. A four-way tie for fifth place with 77 strokes includes UW-Eau Claire’s Grace Raich, UW-Stout Polytechnic’s Ashleigh Johnson and Sarah Chaffee, and UW-Whitewater’s Megan Honn. UW-Eau Claire’s Elizabeth Hermann and Karalyn Skinner, and UW-Whitewater’s are tied for ninth with 78 strokes.
 
The team winner will earn the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be held May 11-14, 2027, at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.
 
The 54-hole championship will resume Oct. 10, with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.
