Student-Athlete Spotlight: Drew Testin, UW-Eau Claire

Each week during the 2025-26 academic year, the WIAC will feature two student-athletes (one male and one female) from one of its eight institutions for a “Student-Athlete Spotlight” Q & A segment. The segments will be posted every Thursday and individuals are selected by the institution. The WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlights are presented by Culver's.

Why did you choose UW-Eau Claire?
I came to UW-Eau Claire because of the incredible team atmosphere that I found here. The swim team at UW-Eau Claire is a great blend of having fun and working towards our goals at the end of the season.  I also liked the campus and the academic opportunities that I was able to have here.

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
I think that the WIAC and NCAA Division III both do a great job of balancing my academics and my swimming career.  I love being able to compete at a high level while also being able to be a student and focus on my academics.

What is your favorite thing to do off the court/field with your teammates?
Play pickup basketball with my team.

Who is someone that you look up to?
My parents. They have taught me to work hard and not give up.

Do you have any words of advice for younger/upcoming student-athletes?
Have fun.  It’s so easy to get wrapped up in how you are performing and get frustrated in little details and get burnt out.  It’s so important to remember to enjoy your sport and to have fun competing and being with teammates because that’s where the love of the sport comes from, and if you love the sport, you’ll find success.

Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they?
I really don’t. I kind of just do whatever I feel I need in the moment, but I usually like to do the same stretching and warmup routine before I swim every day.
