Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - September 29

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 22 - 28.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Kate Downie, Senior (Hortonville, Wis./Hortonville), of UW-Stevens Point
Downie fired a 75 on Sept. 29, to move up to sixth individually at the UW-Whitewater Fall Invitational held at TPC Wisconsin in Madison. Her score of (+3) on Sept. 29, was the sixth-best in the field and the lowest round of any WIAC golfer that day.

MEN’S SOCCER
Offense
Sorel Richardson, Junior (Alameda, Calif./Encinal), Midfielder of UW-River Falls
During UW-River Falls’ road matchup against Luther College (Iowa) on Sept. 26, Richardson delivered a game-saving performance, scoring both goals in a 2-2 draw. He converted two penalty kicks in the final six minutes, including the game-tying goal in the 89th minute. Richardson finished the week with a total of seven shots and four points.

Defense
Alek Laroi, Junior (Grayslake, Ill./Libertyville), Defense of UW-Eau Claire
Laroi helped lead the Blugolds to wins over Macalester College (Minn.) and Beloit College (Wis.) during the week from the back line. He recorded two goals and one assist during his 166 minutes played. In addition to his offensive prowess, Laroi and the Blugold defense allowed just two shots on goal during the two games and recorded the team's fourth and fifth clean sheets of the season.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Offense

Aubree Caya, Junior (Oregon, Wis./Oregon), Forward of UW-La Crosse
Caya scored four goals while recording 12 shots, including seven on goal, in a pair of games during the week. She had a goal at Carleton College (Minn.) on Sept. 24, finishing with two shots on goal. Caya recorded a hat trick, including the game-winner, in a 9-2 victory at Concordia University (Wis.) on Sept. 27, registering 10 shots with five on goal.

Smith collected back-to-back solo clean sheets in her two appearances during the week. She kept both Benedictine University (Ill.) and Wheaton College (Ill.) off the board to lead the Warhawks to a 1-0-1 week. She made four saves in her 180 minutes in the net.

Regal won convincingly by a 6-0, 6-3 final at No. 1 singles against UW-Whitewater in conference action on Sept. 23.

Pethan and Carpenter moved to 6-1 on the season on Sept. 26, during the Titans’ 7-0 win over UW-Stout at home with a 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over Prajna Hosamane and Gretchen Murphy. The win was UW-Oshkosh’s fifth straight and the fourth in a row with a 7-0 result.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Offense
Kierney McDonald, Senior (Taylor Ridge, Ill./Rockridge), Middle Blocker of UW-Platteville
McDonald was active at the net for the Pioneers during the week, tallying three solo blocks and 11 block assists for an average of 1.17 blocks per set as UW-Platteville won all four matches. She had one solo block and three block assists across two sets in a sweep of Beloit College (Wis.) before adding two solo blocks and three block assists in a four-set win over UW-Stout on Sept. 26. McDonald picked up a combined five block assists in a pair of sweeps over the weekend and totaled 3.92 kills per set on the week.

Erickson helped the Blugolds extend their winning streak to 13 matches with a 3-1 victory over UW-La Crosse on Sept. 24. She posted 26 digs, three assists, and zero reception errors. With 6.50 digs per set and handling all 18 serves that came her way, Erickson helped UW-Eau Claire keep UW-La Crosse hitting below .235 in each set and .150 overall.

Krzus led UW-Whitewater to three wins in the Warhawks’ home invitational during the week. She averaged 10.63 assists per set, while adding 13 kills, eight aces and six blocks.
