General 8/15/2025 10:30:22 AM Six To Be Inducted Into UW-La Crosse Wall of Fame **Release courtesy of UW-La Crosse Media Relations LA CROSSE, Wis.--Six former student-athletes make up the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Wall of Fame Class for 2025. The six honorees to be inducted include former student-athletes Christa Booman (2010-14); Katie (Fondow) Doble (2006-09); Jane (Marien) Jorgensen (1986-89); Nate Olson (2003-06); Brian Portilia (1998-2001) and Ross Substad (1997-2001). The six honorees will be recognized with an induction ceremony on Saturday, September 20 starting at 10 a.m. in Centennial Hall. The ceremony is free and open to the public. The award winners will be recognized during halftime of UWL's football game versus UW-Eau Claire. UWL's Wall of Fame pays tribute to former athletes, coaches and staff for their exceptional ability and enhancement of school tradition. Christa Booman Booman earned six National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) All-America honors at UWL, including winning the national title in the all-around in 2011. Her score of 38.650 set a school record and currently ranks tied for third in UWL history. She garnered five All-America honors in 2011. Along with the first-place finish in the all-around, Booman was third on the vault, fourth on the uneven parallel bars and balance beam and sixth on the floor exercise. Booman is the only gymnast in school history to earn five NCGA All-America honors in one championship meet. One of four athletes in UWL history to win the all-around national title, Booman earned her sixth career All-America accolade with a fifth-place finish in the all-around in 2013. She also placed 10th in the all-around at the 2011 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I North Central Regional. She won a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) titles, taking the uneven parallel bars (2012) and all-around (2013). Booman earned three WIAC Athlete of the Week honors. A member of UWL's national championship team in 2011, Booman was also on the Eagles' second-place team in 2013, third-place finish in 2012 and fourth-place in 2014. She was on two (2012, 2014) WIAC Championship teams. Named to the 2014 NCGA All-Academic Team, Booman was a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. A native of Spring Grove, Minnesota, Booman is a fourth grade teacher at The Augustine Academy and currently resides in Brookfield, Wisconsin. She earned her bachelor's degree in recreation management with a minor in environmental studies in 2015 from UWL. Katie (Fondow) Doble Fondow earned nine career NCAA Division III All-America honors for the track & field team, including four in the long jump at the indoor national championships. She placed second in 2006 and 2009 and third in 2007 and 2008. Fondow earned five outdoor All-America accolades, placing fourth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump in 2007. She picked up three honors at the 2009 outdoor championships, finishing second in the long and triple jump and fifth as a member of the 4x100-meter relay. Earning eight career top-six finishes at the WIAC Indoor Championships, Fondow won two (2007, 2008) long jump crowns. She was second in the long jump twice (2006, 2009) and had four top-six finishes in the triple jump, including second (2009). Fondow captured four WIAC Outdoor titles, including the long jump (2007), triple jump (2009) and as a member of the 4x100-meter relay (2007, 2009). She had five other top-four finishes at the outdoor championships, including second in the long jump (2008, 2009) and triple jump (2007). Named to the 2009 All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team, Fondow was a four-time WIAC Athlete of the Week selection. A member of four teams to place in the top-seven at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, Fondow was on the Eagles' second-place team in 2009, fourth in 2007, tied for fourth in 2008 and seventh in 2006. UWL placed third at the 2009 NCAA III Championships and eighth in 2006. She was a member of three WIAC Indoor and Outdoor Championship teams (2007-09). Fondow earned her bachelor's degree in recreational therapy from UWL in 2009. She was a four-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin, Fondow currently resides in Green Bay with her husband, Jon, and three children, Bella, Chloe and Charlotte. Jon Doble competed for the UWL track & field team. Fondow is a Vice President of Services at Aspiro. Named to the WIAC All-Time Swimming & Diving Team, Marien was a five-time National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-America in diving for UWL. She won the three-meter diving national title in 1989 and placed second in 1988, fifth in 1987 and sixth in 1986. Marien was third in the one-meter competition in 1988 to earn All-America honors. She won two conference titles, capturing the one-meter crown in 1988 and the three-meter title in 1989. Jane (Marien) Jorgensen Marien helped lead UWL to four top-12 finishes at the NAIA Championships, including seventh in 1988, 10th in 1987 and 12th in 1986 and 1989. A native of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Marien resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and works as a controller for ThinkGen, a pharmaceutical market research company. She is married to Curt Jorgensen and has one child, Scott Jorgensen. She graduated from UWL in 1989 with a degree in business finance. A member of the WIAC Track & Field All-Time Team, Olson earned 16 career NCAA Division III All-America honors. He won the national indoor title in the 400-meter dash in 2005 and 2006 after placing second in 2004. Olson was a member of three national indoor championship 4x400-meter relays (2003-05). Earning 10 career NCAA Division III Outdoor All-America awards, Olson was on UWL's first-place 4x400-meter relay three seasons (2003-05). He was also on the second-place 4x400-meter relay (2006) and the fourth-place 4x100-meter relay (2003). Individually, Olson was second in the 400-meter dash three times (2004-06) and placed third (2005) and fourth (2006) in the 200-meter dash. Nate Olson Olson won five WIAC Indoor titles, including a pair in the 200-meter dash (2005, 2006) and four 4x200-meter relays (2003-06). Named the 2006 WIAC Indoor Scholar-Athlete, Olson was second in the 200-meter dash two different occasions (2003, 2004). He won four individual titles at the outdoor conference championships, taking the 200 and 400-meter dash titles in 2005 and 2006. Olson was named the 2005 WIAC Outdoor Track Performer of the Meet. He was also on UWL's first-place 4x400-meter relay in 2003. He recorded four other top-five finishes at the outdoor league championships, placing second in the 200 and 400-meter dash (2004), third in the 200 and fifth in the 100-meter dash (2003). Olson was a seven-time WIAC Athlete of the Week selection. Olson was a member of seven NCAA Division III Championship teams, including four indoor (2003-06) and three outdoor (2003-04, 2006). The team placed second outdoors in 2005. He was a member of eight conference championship teams (2003-06). Named to the 2006 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America First Team, Olson earned his bachelor's degree in education-Broadfield science from UWL in 2007 and master's degree in education from UW-Stevens Point in 2019. He was a four-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Olson resides in his hometown of Stevens Point, Wisconsin with his wife, Jenna, and children, Emma, Lucy, Ania and Lucas. Olson is a real estate agent and an owner of the office in Stevens Point with NextHome Priority. He is also the head girls track & field coach at Stevens Point Area Senior High School. A three-time All-WIAC Football selection, Portilia earned first team accolades in 1999 and 2000 and second-team honors in 2001. He was named to a pair of All-America Second Teams in 2000, including Hewlett Packard and Football Gazette. Portilia recorded nine interceptions during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Brian Portilia UWL's career leader in interceptions with 21, Portilia is tied for the school's single-game record with three interceptions coming versus UW-Eau Claire on October 30, 1999. His 21 interceptions rank seventh in WIAC history. Portilia was named the WIAC Defensive Player of the Week during the 2000 season after finishing with two interceptions in UWL's win over NCAA Division II Northern State University (S.D.). Portilia was a member of UWL's conference championship and NCAA playoff team in 1999. He recorded two interceptions in the Eagles' national playoff game versus Central College (Iowa) in 1999, but due to the NCAA Statistics policy, national playoff games didn't start counting toward team and individual records until 2002. He earned his bachelor's degree in radiation therapy from UWL in 2003 and master's degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2013. Portilia was a member of the 2001 WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. He lives in his hometown of Kenosha, Wisconsin, with his wife, Jen, and children, Brian, Oliver, Zoe and Phoebe. He serves as Vice President at Froedtert South overseeing Cancer Services along with additional outpatient areas. Ross Substad Substad garnered a pair of NCAA Division III All-America honors in cross country at UWL, finishing seventh in 2001 and 34th in 1999. He earned two all-region accolades, placing second in 2001 and fifth in 1999. He had three top-17 finishes at the WIAC Championships, including third in 2001, fourth in 1999 and 17th in 1998. Substad was a member of UWL's NCAA Division III Championship team in 2001. The Eagles placed third at the 1999 national championships and sixth in 1998. UWL won three WIAC Cross Country titles (1998-99, 2001) with Substad. On the track, Substad earned three NCAA Division III All-America honors in the steeplechase, placing fourth (1999), eighth (2000) and second (2001). He also earned NCAA Division III Indoor All-America accolades as a member of the fourth-place distance medley relay (2000). Substad won two (1999, 2001) WIAC titles in the steeplechase and was also a member of UWL's winning 4x800-meter relay (2001). Substad served as cross country and track & field team captain in his junior and senior seasons at UWL. He was a member of two (1998, 2000) indoor and three (1998-2000) outdoor track & field WIAC Championship teams. The Eagles placed fourth at the 1998 and 2000 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships while finishing tied for eighth in 1999. At the indoor national championships, Substad was a member of UWL's second-place squad in 1999, fifth in 2000 and eighth in 1998. A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Substad earned his bachelor's degree from UWL in 2001 in information systems. He currently resides in Minneapolis with his wife, Dawn (Schmick), and children, Arthur, Lucy and Alice. Substad is an applications support manager.
