UW-La Crosse Extends Lead At Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship

BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse remained in first place following the third day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 21.
 
The Eagles have accumulated 744 points through 14 events. Two-time defending champion UW-Eau Claire is second with 577 points, UW-Stevens Point third with 368, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 281 and UW-Whitewater fifth with 232.
 
UW-La Crosse secured four titles during the third day of events. Jordy Hahlen posted her third career first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.82 seconds. She also won the event in 2022 and 2024.
 
Joanne Banaszak broke the conference championship record in the one-meter diving competition with 466.70 points, while Callie Klepp was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.64. Klepp also contributed to the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished with a time of 1:35.57. Mikayla Knaffla, Ava Pulvermacher and Libby Cleveland joined Klepp on the squad.
 
UW-Eau Claire’s Elaina Plonis won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.95 seconds, while Emma Vogen posted a first-place time of 4:35.28 in the 400-yard individual medley.
 
UW-Oshkosh’s Francesca Schiro claimed her third consecutive 200-yard freestyle relay crown with a time of 1:51.54.
 
UW-La Crosse’s Autumn Seebach received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
An All-Sportsmanship Team was announced for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire’s Jayne Satre; UW-La Crosse’s Jordy Hahlen; UW-Oshkosh’s Brianna Wesenberg; UW-Stevens Point’s Paige Anderson; and UW-Whitewater’s Aliya Griffiths.
 
The final day of the championship on Feb. 22, will start with prelims at 10:00 a.m., followed by the finals at 5:45 p.m.
