UW-La Crosse Leads Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship

BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has the lead following three days of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 20.
 
UW-La Crosse, the defending champion, has compiled 636 points through 13 events. UW-Eau Claire sits in second with 589.50 points, UW-Stevens Point third with 292.50, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 291 and UW-Whitewater fifth with 242.
 
UW-La Crosse captured two individual crowns and one relay title during day three. Zoey Rank secured the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.90 seconds, while Ava Pulvermacher was victorious in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:33.94. Pulvermacher was a member of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team that included Ellie Brown, Greta Wiskus and Libby Cleveland and posted a time of 1:33.93.
 
UW-Eau Claire added three individual titles as Anwen Smith secured the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.64 seconds, Molly Hosack won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.59 and Amber Winter claimed the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.37.
 
UW-Eau Claire’s Elaina Plonis received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
An All-Sportsmanship Team was announced for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each team as selected by that team. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire’s Amanda Hyland; UW-La Crosse’s Madison DeBernardo; UW-Oshkosh’s Paige Vitek; UW-Stevens Point’s Hannah Scherwinski; and UW-Whitewater’s Brookelyn Kelpfer.
 
The final day of the championship on Feb. 21, will start with prelims at 10:00 a.m., followed by the finals at 5:45 p.m.
