UW-Oshkosh Wins Women’s Basketball Championship

OSHKOSH, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) women’s basketball regular-season championship with a 64-42 triumph over UW-Eau Claire at Kolf Sports Center on Feb. 19.
 
The regular-season title is the second straight and 16th in program history for the Titans. UW-Oshkosh (22-2 overall, 11-2 WIAC) also earned the No. 1 seed for the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver’s) that begins Feb. 25. The Titans will face the lowest remaining seed after the first round in the semifinals on Feb. 27. UW-Stout is the No. 2 seed and will meet the highest remaining seed in the semifinals. The championship contest will be held March 1, with the winner securing an automatic NCAA bid.

UW-Oshkosh trailed 31-29 at halftime against UW-Eau Claire, but outscored the Blugolds 10-0 to open the third quarter and finished with a 20-5 advantage in the third quarter. Kayce Vaile recorded a game-high 19 points and season-high 16 rebounds for the Titans against UW-Eau Claire. It was her ninth double-double of the season. Kate Huml added 11 points and Sammi Beyer chipped in 10 points off the bench.
 
Kyla Overskei had a team-high 11 points and nine rebounds for UW-Eau Claire, while Reanna Hutchinson added nine points.
