UW-Stevens Point’s Gilbert Named NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship Committee Chair

INDIANAPOLIS--UW-Stevens Point Deputy Director of Athletics Diane Gilbert has been named chair of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Committee.

Gilbert's appointment carries a special connection to the history of UW-Stevens Point women's basketball. She becomes the third member of the 2002 national championship UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team to serve as chair of the NCAA Women's Basketball Committee.

Gilbert joins a distinguished group of former Pointers who have held the national leadership position. Hall of Fame head coach Shirley Egner, who guided UW-Stevens Point to the 2002 national championship, previously served as chair. Megan Wilson, a former UW-Stevens Point player and administrator and current Luther College athletic director, also served as chair.

"I am truly honored to serve as chair of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Committee," said Gilbert. "Having been part of NCAA Championships as a player, coach and administrator, I have a deep appreciation for what Division III basketball means to student-athletes, coaches and institutions. It is incredibly special to now give back to the game and serve alongside a great committee of my peers. I look forward to working with the NCAA to provide an exceptional championship experience and to help continue the growth and success of women's basketball across Division III."

As chair, Gilbert will help oversee key aspects of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship, including championship administration, tournament selection and seeding, and other responsibilities associated with the national championship.

Gilbert enters her fifth year as an administrator for UWSP Athletics. Prior to that, she spent 12 seasons as the top assistant coach for the UWSP women's basketball program. The Pointers went 214-124 while Gilbert was a member of the coaching staff, including five NCAA Tournament appearances and four WIAC Tournament titles. She also led the UWSP women's golf program for two seasons.
