Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - October 20

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 13 - 19.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Aidan Matthai, Senior (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa East), of UW-La Crosse
Matthai helped lead UW-La Crosse to the team title at the Augustana College (Ill.) Interregional Invitational Gold Race on Oct. 18. He placed fourth overall as he completed the 8,000-meter course in 24:18.6. A total of 339 runners completed the race, featuring 14 of the top 30 teams in NCAA Division III. UW-La Crosse, ranked first, won the team title with 56 points.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Molly Heidorn, Junior (Colfax, Wis./Colfax), of UW-Eau Claire
Heidorn was the top WIAC finisher at the Augustana College (Ill.) Interregional Invitational, placing seventh of 349 runners, leading the Blugolds to an eight-place finish out of 40 teams. She covered the 6,000-meter course in 21:57, a lifetime PR, and 54 seconds faster than one year ago at this same meet.

FOOTBALL
Offense
Nathan Uselding, Sophomore (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington), Quarterback of UW-Platteville
Uselding got it done both through the air and on the ground in the Pioneers 38-21 win over No. 4-ranked UW-La Crosse on Oct. 18. He completed 12-of-16 passes for 171 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, while adding a career-high 113 rushing yards and another score. Uselding opened the scoring for the Pioneers with a nine-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter and threw a 30-yard touchdown on a fourth down later in the same frame. He increased UW-Platteville's lead with a one-yard touchdown pass late in the second, and wrapped up his scoring with another fourth-down touchdown pass, this time a 31-yard score in the third quarter.

Kim bolstered a defense that allowed a single rushing yard in UW-Whitewater’s 34-2 win over UW-Stout on Oct. 17. He registered six tackles, including a tackle for a loss and a sack. Kim added a pass breakup in the contest.

Brady Mobley, Freshman (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek), Kicker of UW-Platteville
Mobley went a perfect 5-of-5 on extra point attempts and 1-for-1 on field goal tries in the Pioneers 38-21 win over No. 4-ranked UW-La Crosse on Oct. 18. He knocked through a 39-yard field goal attempt early in the fourth quarter to extend UW-Platteville's lead to 17. Mobley also added 425 kickoff yards on his seven kicks, helping limit the Eagles kickoff returners throughout the contest.

MEN’S SOCCER
Offense
Cooper Re, Senior (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly), Forward of UW-Whitewater
Re led the Warhawks to two wins during the week, scoring five goals in the two contests. Against University of Dubuque (Iowa), Re put his name in the record book, with the 15th-fastest hat trick in NCAA history at 4 minutes and 50 seconds. Re’s second and third goals were only 15 seconds apart, the seventh-fastest consecutive goals in Division III history and a Warhawk record. The next day, Re scored two goals against UW-River Falls to give the Warhawks their 10th win of the season.

Waite held down the goal for the Warhawks in their two wins during the week over University of Dubuque (Iowa) and UW-River Falls. He played a total of 157 minutes, making seven saves and only allowing one goal.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Offense

Aubree Caya, Junior (Oregon, Wis./Oregon), of UW-La Crosse
Caya had two goals and one assist in UW-La Crosse's 4-0 victory at UW-Stout on Oct. 18. She scored the game-winning goal as the Eagles improved to 4-0 in the WIAC. It marked her 12th game this season with at least one point, including 11 with a goal.

Mallory Kerhin, Senior (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest), Goalkeeper of UW-Oshkosh
Kerhin anchored a UW-Oshkosh defense that posted two consecutive shutouts during the week – a 0-0 tie with Carroll University (Wis.) at home on Oct. 15, and a 1-0 road WIAC win over UW-Platteville on Oct. 18. In 180 minutes between the posts, Kerhin saved seven shots on goal against Carroll and three at UW-Platteville for her fourth and fifth shutouts of the season.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Caleb Weis, Junior (Burlington, Wis./Burlington), of UW-Whitewater
Weis won a pair of individual events to bolster the Warhawks team win over Carthage College (Wis.) on Oct. 17. He won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:11.50 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:58.13 – both the fastest in the conference this season. On Oct. 18, Weis was the fastest Division III swimmer in the 500-yard freestyle, recording a time of 5:03.57 to finish seventh at the Wisconsin Showcase.

Diving
Drew Schmitz, Junior (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North), of UW-Whitewater
Schmitz won the one-meter competition in a dual meet against Carthage College (Wis.) with a score of 219.65. Off the three-meter board, Schmitz compiled a score of 165.15 to finish in second place.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Hailey Vogel, Freshman (Rockwell City, Iowa/Fort Dodge), of UW-Whitewater
Vogel led the Warhawks with a pair of individual victories against Carthage College (Wis.) on Oct. 17. Vogel won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.09 – the fastest time in the WIAC so far this season and the seventh-fastest in program history. She added a gold in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 30.52 seconds. In the relays, Vogel was a member of the top 200-yard medley relay squad and the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay. On Oct. 18, Vogel was a member of the second-place 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays – both recording the top times for a Division III squad at the meet.

Diving
Olivia Santiago, Freshman (Auburn, Calif./Placer), of UW-Whitewater
In her second meet ever diving, Santiago won both the one-meter (194.70) and three-meter (177.35) boards against Carthage College (Wis.) on Oct. 17. Santiago’s one-meter score ranks sixth in program history, while her mark off the three-meter board is fifth all-time for the Warhawks. She followed with a fourth-place finish among Division I and III divers in both the one- and three-meter competitions on Oct. 18 at the Wisconsin Showcase. Her scores of 193.80 and 183.38 bested a DI swimmer in both events.

Tasha Bailey, Graduate Student (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West), of UW-La Crosse
Bailey earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles over UW-Oshkosh's Mana Usui in UW-La Crosse's 7-0 win on Oct. 14. The Eagles' victory clinched the WIAC regular-season title outright as UW-La Crosse improved to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Abby Stanwood, Senior (Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka), Outside Hitter of UW-Eau Claire
Stanwood helped the Blugolds improve to 23-2 with four wins during the week, including a victory over No. 6-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University. She continued her consistent play with 4.73 kills per set. While swinging at a .292 rate, Stanwood tallied 71 kills including a career-high 28 kills against the Titans. While averaging 5.50 points per set, Stanwood earned nine service aces and five block assists. She was named to the All-Tournament Team during the weekend's Blugold Alumni Weekend Invitational.

Erickson helped the Blugolds improve to 23-2 with four wins during the week, including a victory over No. 6-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University. She tallied 5.07 digs per set to help the Blugolds keep their four opponents hitting at a 0.193 average attack rate. In addition to her digs, Erickson recorded 23 assists and three aces in 15 sets played.

Kiebel helped the Blugolds improve to 23-2 with four wins during the week, including a victory over No. 6-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University. With 140 assists over 15 sets, Kiebel tallied 9.33 assists per frame and eclipsed 700 assists in her first collegiate season. In addition to facilitating the offense through setting, Kiebel recorded 4.20 digs per set, including 28 in the five-set upset of the Titans. Kiebel added seven service aces during the week.
