Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - March 4

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of February 26 - March 3.

BASEBALL
Position
Matt Scolan, Junior (Downers Grove, Ill./South), Outfield of UW-Whitewater
Over a four-game series against No. 19-ranked Trinity University (Texas), Scolan recorded a pair of homeruns, a triple and a double with eight runs batted in. He registered eight hits, opening the season with a 1.371 OBS and .421 batting average.

Connor Brinkman, Junior (New London, Wis./New London), Lefthanded Pitcher of UW-Oshkosh
Brinkman earned his first win of the season against North Park University (Ill.) on March 1, throwing eight scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, while allowing just three hits. He combined with Josh Jansen, who pitched the ninth inning, for the 3-0 shutout victory.

WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS
Specialist
Reanna McGibboney, Sophomore (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East), of UW-Oshkosh
McGibboney recorded a score of at least 9.650 on all three events she competed in during the Titans’ triangular win over UW-La Crosse and UW-Stout on Feb. 29, at Kolf Sports Center. She recorded 9.650-point finishes in the vault and uneven bars to start the meet and capped it off with 9.750 points in the floor exercise.

All-Around
Emily Buffington, Senior (Huntersville, N.C./Lake Norman Charter), of UW-Oshkosh
Buffington scored 38.150 all-around points on Feb. 29, in the Titans’ triangular win over UW-La Crosse and UW-Stout at the Kolf Sports Center. She registered 9.725 on both the uneven bars and floor exercise, scored a 9.450 on the vault and totaled 9.250 points on the balance beam. The Titans scored 193.225 points in the victory.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Offense
Megan Feeney, Junior (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville), Attacker of UW-La Crosse
Feeney recorded five goals and one assist in UW-La Crosse's 17-16 overtime victory over Lake Forest College (Ill.) on March 2. She won the draw control to start overtime as the Eagles scored the winning goal :43 into overtime.

Squire made six saves on eight shots to pick up her first win and help UW-Stout to the program's first-ever win.

SOFTBALL
Position
Claire Beck, Junior (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson), Firstbase/Designated Player of UW-Eau Claire
Beck posted a .571 batting average and drove in eight runs — including a walk-off winner — across four games at the Millikin University (Ill.) Tournament held March 2-3. She propelled the Blugolds to a 9-8 win over Hanover College (Ill.) on March 3 by hitting a two-RBI, walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap her day. She went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI against the Panthers. Beck went 8-for-14 at the plate overall with three multi-hit games.

Sydney Nemetz, Junior (Marinette, Wis./Marinette), Righthanded Pitcher of UW-Oshkosh
Nemetz pitched three-hit and one-hit complete game wins over Loras College (Iowa) and Edgewood College (Wis.) at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex Dome during the week, with 14 strikeouts. She threw seven innings against the Duhawks on March 2, striking out eight batters, while allowing just three hits and a walk. Her second appearance came against the Eagles, where she threw all five innings with six strikeouts, one hit and a walk.

Aranda earned a 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 victory over Zack Chaffey of Bethel University (Minn.) at No. 4 singles on March 3.
