UW-La Crosse Leads Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship

WHITEWATER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse possesses the lead following the first day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Leonard "Squig" Converse Track at Kachel Fieldhouse on Feb. 23.
 
The three-time defending champion Eagles have compiled 137.5 points through the first seven events. UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh are tied for second with 39 points, white UW-Stout is fourth with 37, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 21.5, UW-Whitewater sixth with 20, UW-River Falls seventh with 10 and UW-Platteville eighth with eight.
 
UW-La Crosse won five individual event titles and one relay crown during the first day of the championship. Amber Johnson was victorious in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.54 seconds, while Maddie Hannan claimed the one-mile run with a time of 4:59.64.
 
Katelyn Chadwick secured the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:14.21, Macie Todd finished first in the high jump with a leap of 5-8 and Izzy Carroll claimed the shot put with a heave of 46-9.
 
UW-Stout had a pair of individual event winners as Leah Zastrow emerged with the pole vault title after achieving a height of 12-10 1/4, and Jenna Driscoll was victorious in the long jump with a leap of 18-8 1/2.
 
UW-Whitewater won the distance medley relay for the second straight year after Paige Fassbender, Brynn Fuerstenberg, Katie Erb and Ari De La Cerda teamed for a time of 12:18.21.
 
Competition at the two-day championship will resume on Feb. 24 at 10 a.m.
