UW-Eau Claire Wins Second Straight Women’s Swimming & Diving Title

BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire secured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 17.
 
The Blugolds won their second straight title – and 21st in program archives – with 971 points. UW-La Crosse finished second with 912.50 points, UW-Stevens Point third with 526.50, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 466 and UW-Whitewater fifth with 263.
 
UW-Eau Claire collected five first-place finishes during the fourth day of events. Ella Weaver won the 200-yard breaststroke for the third consecutive year with a time of 2:18.70, while Elaina Plonis defended her title in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.04.
 
Molly Hosack was victorious in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:19.36 and Sydney McGuine claimed the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.01.
 
McGuine was also a member of the first-place 400-yard freestyle relay team that had a time of 3:29.11. She was joined by Kiara Bissen, Zoe Rylander and Sydney McCollor.
 
UW-La Crosse’s Joanna Banaszak posted a score of 447.30 to win the three-meter diving and received Kwik Trip Diver of the Meet honors.
 
UW-Oshkosh’s Francesca Schiro secured the 100-yard freestyle in 51.37 seconds and was tabbed the Kwik Trip Swimmer of the Meet.
 
UW-Eau Claire’s Amber Winter was selected the Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year. A newcomer is defined as a student-athlete who used her first season of participation in women’s swimming & diving this season. Transfers are not eligible unless they didn’t participate in women’s swimming & diving at their previous institution.
 
UW-Oshkosh’s Christopher Culp secured Kwik Trip Coach of the Year recognition and UW-Eau Claire’s Sydney McGuine received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
