Women's Golf 10/7/2024 1:16:38 PM UW-Whitewater’s Johnson Named Women’s Golf Judy Kruckman Scholar Athlete MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Elizabeth Johnson has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award. A senior from Johnsburg, Ill. (Johnsburg),Johnson boasts a 4.00 grade point average while majoring in biology (pre-biomedical professions) with a minor in environmental science. She is a three-time Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Student-Athlete and a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Johnson was selected as UW-Whitewater’s Chancellor’s Scholar in 2021, and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District First Team in 2024. She has been recognized on UW-Whitewater’s Dean’s List numerous semesters. Johnson helped UW-Whitewater to a first-place finish – its eighth straight - at this year’s WIAC Championship by placing tying for fifth. She is a two-time All-WIAC selection, securing first team honors in 2022 and second team recognition in 2023. Johnson also received NCGA/WGCA All-Region accolades both years. She owns the program records for the lowest 18-hole score and lowest 36-hole score, and holds the second-best score in program history for 54 holes. Johnson was tabbed the team MVP in 2023. She is a member of UW-Whitewater’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the University Honors Program. Johnson is a member of the National Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society and has volunteered at Mainstay Therapeutic Farm. Also nominated for this year’s scholar-athlete award were: UW-La Crosse’s Grace Ellison (Sr., Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South); and UW-River Falls’ Kate Garbow (Jr., Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids). The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman, who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October, 1984 - September, 1996. Kruckman was the women’s athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971. In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years. The award is based on academic achievements, athletics accomplishments and involvement in other campus activities, organizations and community service projects. # # # # #
