Women's Basketball 3/1/2023 11:58:05 AM All-WIAC Women’s Basketball Honorees Revealed Printable PDF of the 2023 All-WIAC Women's Basketball Team MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Aleah Grundahl was selected the Kwik Trip Player of the Year, while UW-Platteville’s Ella Mackiewiecz was tabbed the Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year to top the individuals chosen to the 2023 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Basketball Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-Stout’s Hannah Iverson received Kwik Trip Coach of the Year honors. Grundahl collected Player of the Year distinction for the second straight year, becoming the first Warhawk to accomplish the feat. She was also a first team pick in 2021. This season, she ranks third in the WIAC with an .805 free-throw percentage, fourth with 47 steals, fifth with 14.3 points per game, sixth with 66 assists and seventh with a .469 field goal percentage. Grundahl has reached double figures in scoring in 17 games, including a season-high 27 points against UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 7. She has 1,339 career points – one of 18 players in program history to achieve the 1,000-point mark. Mackiewicz is the leading scorer among newcomers in the WIAC with 11.5 points per contest. She ranks third in the conference with 48 steals and sixth with a .775 free-throw percentage. A Newcomer of the Year is defined as a student-athlete who used her first season of participation in women’s basketball this season. Transfers are not eligible unless they didn’t participate in women’s basketball at their previous institution. Repeat selections on the first team from a season ago included: UW-Eau Claire’s Tyra Boettcher and Jessie Ruden (Co-Player of the Year); and UW-River Falls’ Macy Nilsen. Ruden also received first team recognition in 2021. Iverson claimed the coaching award after leading the Blue Devils to an 18-8 record and a share of the WIAC regular-season championship – the sixth in program archives. An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.
