Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - October 16

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of October 9 - 15.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Christian Patzka, Junior (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights), of UW-Whitewater
Patzka won the Augustana College (Ill.) Interregional Invitational in a field of 453 runners. His time of 24:19 on a rain-soaked, muddy course led the Warhawks to a second-place finish in the high-powered field of teams that included 10 of the top 35 teams in the country.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Carolyn Shult, Senior (Augusta, Wis./Augusta), of UW-Eau Claire
Shult placed second of 395 runners to lead the Blugolds to a sixth-place finish out of 42 teams at the Augustana College (Ill.) Interregional Invitational on Oct. 14. She clocked in at 21:27 for the 6k distance, which is a lifetime personal best.

FOOTBALL
Offense
Jack Studer, Senior (Eyota, Minn./Dover-Eyota), Wide Receiver of UW-La Crosse
Studer caught seven passes for 158 yards (22.6 average) and one touchdown in UW-La Crosse's 21-17 victory at UW-Platteville on Oct. 14. He set up UW-La Crosse's first touchdown with a 25-yard reception on third-and-six on the final play of the first quarter. Studer had a 71-yard catch on third-and-15 in the third quarter and the Eagles tied the game on the next play at 14-14. He caught a 16-yard touchdown pass with 1:13 remaining in the third quarter to give the Eagles a 21-17 lead.

Defense
Colton Ingram, Senior (Byron, Ill./Byron), Linebacker of UW-Platteville
Ingram, playing on Saturday after the passing of his father the day before, recorded a career-high 12 tackles against UW-La Crosse. He was routinely in the Eagles backfield, as he finished with a sack and a pair of tackles for loss. Four of Ingram's 12 tackles were solo stops.

Cool scored a season-high 15 points in UW-Stout’s 51-14 win over UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 14. He was a perfect 6-of-6 on PATs and 3-of-4 on field goal attempts (34, 33, 37). Cool averaged 55.6 yards on 10 kickoffs with two touchbacks.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Lydia Smith, Junior (Troy, Ill./Triad), Forward of UW-Platteville
Smith was a big part of UW-Platteville’s 7-1 win over UW-Stout on Oct. 14, as she scored twice and added an assist. On her opening-goal assist, Smith broke the program record for career assists with 20. She would tally one goal in each half to help the Pioneers pick up their second conference win of the season.

Mara Gustafson, Junior (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port), Defender of UW-Stevens Point
Gustafson led UW-Stevens Point’s backline to a pair of victories during the week. On Oct. 10, she was vital in tracking back, especially late, in UW-Stevens Point’s 2-1 home win over Carthage College (Wis.). She added two shots in the match. At UW-Whitewater on Oct. 14, Gustafson again aided the defense in allowing just five shots on goal in a 3-1 victory. Gustafson played all 90 minutes in both matches as she has all 14 matches this season.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Dom Schlueter, Sophomore (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin), of UW-Whitewater
Schlueter won two individual events and was a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay in UW-Whitewater’s 137-78 win over Illinois Institute of Technology on Oct. 14. He won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.87, the 100-yard freestyle in 48.01, and anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay in 47.19.

Ben Koller, Senior (Savage, Minn./Shakopee), of UW-Eau Claire
Koller swept the diving competitions in a 158-73 dual victory over UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 14. He scored a 275.85 on the one-meter board to win by more than 120. He posted a 289.08 on the three-meter board to win by nearly 50.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Sydney McGuine, Senior (Huntley, Ill./Huntley), of UW-Eau Claire
McGuine was part of three wins as UW-Eau Claire posted a 148-86 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 14. Individually, she took the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.00 seconds, winning by nearly a full second. She also contributed to a pair of relay wins. McGuine swam in the 200-yard medley relay (1:51.64) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:40.80), earning victories with both teams.

Diving
Abbi Priestley, Sophomore (Neenah, Wis./Neenah), of UW-Oshkosh
Priestley kicked off the season with first place finishes in both the one- and three-meter diving events at UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 14. In the one-meter diving, she scored 244.85 points, following it up with 258.75 points in the three-meter event.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Singles
Tristin Jantz, Sophomore (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central), of UW-Stevens Point
Jantz capped off the week with two decisive wins at No. 1 singles against UW-Oshkosh and UW-River Falls. Against the Titans, Jantz won her match 6-2, 6-3. Against UW-River Falls on Oct. 14, she posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory to lead the Pointers to a 9-0 sweep of the Falcons.

Doubles
Ella Nguyen, Sophomore (Oshkosh, Wis./West) & Courtney Carpenter, Sophomore (Oshkosh, Wis./West), of UW-Oshkosh
Nguyen and Carpenter outscored their No. 2 doubles competitors 16-6 during the week. In the Titans’ 6-3 win over UW-Stevens Point, they beat Quinlyn Mack and Chloe Leithold 8-6 and defeated Ashlyn Dellemann and Lexie Stein 8-0 in UW-Oshkosh’s shutout of UW-Stout. Nguyen also picked up two No. 3 singles victories over her Pointer and Blue Devil opponents.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Offense
Kameri Meredith, Senior (Elk Mound, Wis./Colfax), Outside Hitter of UW-River Falls
Meredith led the Falcons to a trio of wins on the week away from home, defeating UW-La Crosse, Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.), and College of Saint Benedict (Minn.). She totaled a team-high 44 kills, averaging 4.0 kills and 5.1 digs per 11 sets played. During a 3-1 win over Concordia, Meredith notched 17 kills with just one error for a .356 hitting percentage, contributing to her .271 weekly percentage. While tallying 56 digs on the week, she eclipsed 1,000 in her career.

Dettmann was the match leader in digs against both No. 2-ranked UW-Oshkosh and Carthage College (Wis.). She made 26 digs in each match at an average of 6.5 per set. Her 26 digs were one shy of tying her season best. Dettmann also averaged just over one assist per set.
