The segments will be posted every Thursday and individuals are selected by the institution. The WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlights are presented by Culver's. Name: Sheridan Dettmann Institution: UW-Eau Claire Hometown (High School): Watertown, Wis. (Watertown High School) Year in school: Senior Sport: Women’s Volleyball Major: Exercise Science Minor: Coaching Why did you choose UW-Eau Claire? I chose UWEC because it provided everything I wanted in a university and a volleyball program. It offers a great Kinesiology program, has a beautiful campus and it's not too close or too far from home! I also wanted to play for a competitive and winning volleyball program where I felt loved more as a person than a volleyball player. What other clubs/organizations on campus are you involved in? I am involved in Athletes in Action, I worked for UWEC Recreation for three years and I currently work at the front desk of our strength and performance center! I also have a coaching apprenticeship where I help coach other UWEC sports during their lifting sessions. What causes do you care about? I love nutrition and exercise, so sharing the importance of pursuing a healthy lifestyle with people of all ages is something that I am very passionate about. What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete? I love competing in the WIAC because you are pushed to bring your absolute best to every single conference match, and it is arguably the most competitive Division III conference in the country for volleyball and several other sports. In addition, being a Division III athlete means that you are playing a sport simply because you love it. There are no athletic scholarships or other pressures tied to your performance as a student-athlete. What is your favorite… Menu item from Culver’s? Chocolate concrete mixer with cookie dough or Oreos. Flavor of the Day from Culver’s? Crazy for Cookie Dough Non-Athletic Spot on Campus? McIntyre Library or Einstein Bros Bagels! Movie? Our head strength and performance coach, Zac Ruch called us “squirrels” once and I think that is very accurate. One word that describes you? Compassionate What is your dream job? Coaching Division 1 volleyball or owning my own coffee shop by the ocean. Three things on your "bucket list"? ---Travel to all 50 states. ---Watch the Summer Olympics in person. ---Complete the Ironman Triathlon. A non-athletic talent that you have is? I can juggle. Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they? Yes, I draw a small cross on my left wrist before every game and I always have a braid in my hair! # # # # #
