Women's Tennis 7/27/2022 9:57:24 AM Cychosz To Lead UW-Eau Claire Women’s Tennis Program **Release courtesy of UW-Eau Claire Sports Information EAU CLAIRE, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Athletics Director Dan Schumacher has announced the hiring of Ken Cychosz as the head coach for the women's tennis program after one year as an assistant to men's and women's Blugold programs. Cychosz begins his first year at the helm for UW-Eau Claire's women's tennis program during the 2022-23 season and will focus his coaching knowledge and skills as the 12th head coach in program history. Brian Biernat will continue to serve as the men's tennis head coach. In 2021-22, the women's tennis team took second at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship and had their top doubles pairing, Lindsey Henderson and Elaine Franta, take second at the ITA Midwest Regionals in September 2021. During his four years at University of Saint Thomas (Minn.) (two years as head coach), Cychosz led the women to a 57-18 overall record. The 2020-21 team accumulated 14 straight victories, won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) title, and advanced to the round of 16 of the NCAA Division III Tournament. They were ranked in the top 5 in the Central Region and ended up finishing ninth in Division III. In addition, two members of the team achieved All-American status. The men's team accumulated a record of 17-10 during the last two years and were ranked No. 16 in the Central region (3rd in the MIAC). Between the two teams, 13 members achieved all-conference status in 2020-21. Cychosz is a member of the Blugold Hall of Fame for his work from 1979-82. He won the conference championship in 1982 at No. 1 singles and twice advanced to the fourth round in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National tournament. During his stint, Blugold teams won seven straight WIAC titles and 47 straight conference matches. He is a long-time tennis enthusiast; Cychosz has received more than 40 Northern Section No. 1 rankings and several national team titles. His best individual finish was the round of 16 at the United States National Grass Courts in 2001. He is married to Pam with two children Sam and Jackie. # # # # #
