UW-Eau Claire’s Meade Tops All-WIAC Women’s Golf Team; UW-Stout’s Filipiak Tabbed Newcomer of the Year

MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Lexi Meade earned Player of the Year honors to lead the individuals on the 2021 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Team. In addition, UW-Stout’s Abbey Filipiak received Newcomer of the Year recognition.
 
The team was determined by using the regional, head-to-head NCAA Division III Golfstat rankings immediately following the conclusion of the conference championship. A player must have completed at least five rounds in order to be eligible.
 
Meade becomes the fifth Blugold to secure the top honor, joining Jennifer Prock (2002), Maggie Loney (2004 and 2005), Sara Mattes (2010) and Kate Engler (2013). Meade posted an 80.25 stroke average during the season and secured medalist recognition at the Carthage College (Wis.) Spring Invitational. She finished second at the UW-Eau Claire/UW-River Falls Invitational, third at the Bethel University (Minn.) Battle at the Creek, fifth at the Turtleback Invitational and eighth at the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver’s).
 
UW-Whitewater’s CheyAnn Knudsen and Ashton Sinak were repeat selections on the first team from a season ago with Sinak collecting Player of the Year honors. Knudsen claimed first team accolades for the fourth consecutive season, becoming the second Warhawk to accomplish the feat. Ashley Hofmeister was a first team pick from 2016 thru 2019. Knudsen added Player of the Year distinction in 2018.
 
Filipiak maintained an 80.00 stroke average during the 2021 campaign and earned medalist privileges at the Carthage College (Wis.) Spring Invitational and UW-Eau Claire/UW-River Falls Invitational. She took fourth at the conference championship. A Newcomer is defined as a student-athlete who used her first season of participation in women’s golf this season.
