Wrestling 3/30/2021 11:58:17 AM UW-Stevens Point’s Berlin Selected Wrestler of the Year; UW-Whitewater’s Pogorzelski Named Newcomer of the Year MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Matt Berlin has been selected the 2021 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Wrestler of the Year, while UW-Whitewater’s Ethan Pogorzelski has been tabbed the Newcomer of the Year based on voting conducted by the league coaches. Berlin claimed the honor for the second straight season and is the sixth wrestler in conference history to receive the award multiple times. He compiled an 8-0 record during the 2021 campaign and was named the John Peterson Wrestler of the Meet at the WIAC Championship after winning the 133-pound title for the second consecutive year. Berlin amassed a 40-0 record over the past two seasons. Pogorzelski competed at 133 pounds and had a 3-2 record. He posted wins of 5-2 over UW-Stevens Point’s Drew Willeman and UW-Eau Claire’s Thomas Severson, while also upending UW-Platteville’s Isaac Wiegel by decision 4-3 (TB-4). A Newcomer of the Year is defined as a student-athlete who used his first season of participation in wrestling this season. # # # # #
