Women’s Swimming & Diving Honors Revealed

MADISON, Wis.--The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its award recipients for the 2020-21 women’s swimming & diving season based on voting by the league coaches.
 
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Anna Pilecky was tabbed the Swimmer of the Year, while UW-Eau Claire’s Sarah Dahlk received Diver of the Year honors. UW-Eau Claire’s Sydney McGuine was selected the Newcomer of the Year. For the 2020-21 season, the swimmer/diver of the year recognition replaces the swimmer/diver of the meet awards that are announced at the conference championship.
 
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school, including: UW-Eau Claire’s Katy Volz; UW-La Crosse’s Sydney Vian; UW-Oshkosh’s Emelia Smith; UW-Stevens Point’s Libby Dammen; and UW-Whitewater’s Abby Thompson.
 
Pilecky dominated the 1,000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle events during the season. She won the 1,000-yard freestyle event against UW-Oshkosh, UW-Whitewater and UW-La Crosse by an average margin of more than 36 seconds in the trio of victories. In the season finale against UW-Eau Claire on March 6, she set the UW-Stevens Point Aquatics Center pool record for the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:31.98, 500-yard freestyle in 5:04.08 and 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:27.18.
 
Dahlk was unbeaten on the one-meter and three-meter boards in all four dual meets. Her score of 259.90 in the one-meter competition against UW-Stevens Point on March 6, was an All-American consideration score and NCAA diving zone cut. Dahlk’s top mark in the three-meter event was 250.95 against UW-La Crosse on Feb. 20.
 
McGuine won every individual race she was entered in. She finished with the top times in the conference in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.39 seconds, 100-yard freestyle in 53.34 seconds and 100-yard backstroke in 58.55 seconds. 
A Newcomer of the Year is defined as a student-athlete who used her first season of participation in women’s swimming & diving this season.
