UW-Eau Claire Tops Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship

BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire owns the advantage following the first day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 13.
 
Through five events, UW-Eau Claire has amassed 197.50 points. UW-La Crosse, the eight-time defending champion, is second with 189.50 points, while UW-Whitewater is third with 178, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 138 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 90.
 
UW-Whitewater’s Renata Schlomann was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.57 seconds. She also helped the 400-yard medley relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 1:36.75. Schlomann was joined by Savana Bitz, Olivia Theobald and Bailey Weston.
 
UW-La Crosse’s Lilly Larsen, Maria Vaudreuil, Ellie Szczupakiewicz and Mikala Leppla teamed to win the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:53.90. It marked the first title for the Eagles in the event since the 2013 championship. UW-La Crosse also received a first-place performance from Kaylie Svacina in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:11.30.
 
UW-Stevens Point’s Anna Pilecky won the 500-yard freestyle for the second straight season in 5:00.21.
 
Competition at the three-day championship will continue on Feb. 14, with the prelims at 10 a.m. and finals being conducted at 6:30 p.m.

500-Yard Freestyle:  Anna Pilecky (UW-Stevens Point), 5:00.21
200-Yard Individual Medley:  Kaylie Svacina (UW-La Crosse), 2:11.30
