UW-Eau Claire Takes Lead At Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship

BROWN DEER, Wis.--Defending champion University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire owns the lead following the second day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 20.
 
The Blugolds have accumulated 302 points through seven events. UW-La Crosse is second with 269 points, while UW-Stevens Point is third with 237, UW-Whitewater fourth with 166 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 123.
 
All swimming finals were conducted as timed finals after a power outage in the facility resulted in the cancellation of preliminary events.
 
UW-Eau Claire won three events during the second day of action. Kadin Denner became the first swimming in WIAC history to win three consecutive titles in the 500-yard freestyle after posting a time of 4:34.34.
 
Ben Keller secured the 200-yard individual medley for the third straight year with a time of 1:50.65. Keller also was a member of the first-place 400-yard medley relay team that posted a time of 3:21.00.
 
UW-La Crosse’s Blake Nelson sprinted to his second consecutive 50-yard freestyle title with a time of 20.30 seconds.
 
UW-Stevens Point’s Declan Trant won the one-meter diving event with 502.55 points.
 
The championship continues on Feb. 21, with prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m., and the finals at 6:30 p.m.

200-Yard Individual Medley:  Ben Keller (UW-Eau Claire), 1:50.65
