UW-Oshkosh Wins Third Consecutive NCGA Championship; Four From WIAC Secure Event Titles

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.--University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh won its third consecutive National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championship at Helfferich Hall Gymnasium on March 23. In addition, four Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) gymnastics combined for six individual event titles.

The NCGA title is the fifth in program history – and seventh overall – as the Titans also claimed the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women championship in 1980 and recorded a first-place finish at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics championship in 1986. WIAC programs have combined for 27 team titles at the NCGA championships with UW-La Crosse claiming 17 and UW-Whitewater five.

UW-Oshkosh secured this year’s title with a championship-record score of 194.975, while UW-Whitewater was second with 193.575, UW-La Crosse third with 193.175, SUNY Brockport fourth with 193.075, UW-Stout fifth with 191.625 and SUNY Cortland sixth with 190.925. The national meet was hosted by Ursinus College (Pa.).

UW-Oshkosh’s Mia Lucero was victorious in the vault and floor exercise with a score of 9.825 and 9.900, respectively. She shared the vault title with Maren Eramo of SUNY Brockport. Lucero is the fourth Titan to win the floor exercise and sixth to post a first-place finish in the vault.

UW-Oshkosh’s Emily Buffington and UW-Whitewater’s Hayden Gough shared the top spot on the podium in the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.850. Buffington also secured the all-around title with a score of 39.175.

Buffington claimed the uneven parallel bars for the second time in her career (2022) and is the second Titan to win the all-around crown, while Gough is the program’s sixth NCGA champion in the event.

Winona State’s Bryce Stoltz won the balance beam with a score of 9.850. She is the first individual in program history to claim a NCGA title in the event.

UW-Whitewater head coach Jen Regan was inducted into the NCGA Hall of Fame at the championship banquet on March 22. She was inducted based on her accomplishments as a student-athlete at Springfield College (Mass.). Regan was a two-time All-American and a member of the 1996 NCGA national championship team.
