Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - September 25

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of September 18 - 24.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Paul Proteau, Sophomore (Riverside, Ill./Brookfield), of UW-Oshkosh
Proteau led the Titans to the UW-Platteville Gender Equity Invitational team title on Sept. 23, with a first-place time of 25:14. He led four Titans that finished in the top 10 and was the fastest in the 160-runner field.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Gracie Buchinger, Freshman (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly), of UW-Oshkosh
Buchinger placed third at the UW-Platteville Gender Equity Invitational on Sept. 23, with a season-best time of 24:03.6. As the fastest Titan in the race, she led UW-Oshkosh to the team title and outpaced 106 runners.

WOMEN’S GOLF
Kallie Lux, Junior (Janesville, Wis./Craig), of UW-Whitewater
Lux registered a personal-best 36-hole card to lead the Warhawks to a first-place finish in a 33-team field at the Midwest Region Classic held Sept. 22-23, at Brightondale Links in Kansasville, Wis. Lux topped the individual leaderboard of 191 golfers with back-to-back rounds of 74 for a total of 148. That mark is third-best in program history.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Offense
Lexi Peterson, Senior (Mankato, Minn./West), Forward of UW-River Falls
Peterson led the Falcons in scoring on the week with four points off a goal and two assists, leading UW-River Falls to wins over College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) and Macalester College (Minn.). Against St. Scholastica on Sept. 20, she had three points to record her third multi-point game of the season. She currently leads the WIAC in scoring with 14 points.

Ava Glenn, Sophomore (Montgomery, Ill./Yorkville), Midfielder of UW-Eau Claire
Glenn started on the Blugolds’ back line and helped spearhead two shutouts during the week. Her performance included a 90-minute shift in a shutout of regionally-ranked Macalester College (Minn.) on Sept. 21. The Blugolds kept the No. 7-ranked Scots off the scoreboard just a couple of days after doing the same to St. Olaf College (Minn.) in a 0-0 draw. Glenn logged 66 minutes in the shutout of the Oles.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Singles
Samantha Fuchs, Junior (DeForest, Wis./DeForest), of UW-Eau Claire
Fuchs made it further into the singles bracket than any other WIAC competitor at the ITA Midwest Regional held Sept. 22-23. The ninth-seeded Blugold reached the singles quarterfinals by recording three victories at the tournament. That included a 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 defeat of third-seeded Cassandra Lee of UW-Whitewater in the round of 16. Fuchs won her first round match 6-0, 6-0 over Reese Williams of Wartburg College (Iowa) and defeated 27th-seeded Lauren Lindow of UW-La Crosse 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 in the round of 32.

Doubles
Cassie Lee, Junior (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) & Gracie Ha, Sophomore (Palatine, Ill./Fremd), of UW-Whitewater
Lee and Ha advanced the semifinals of the ITA Midwest Regional doubles tournament. The duo went 3-1 after receiving a first-round bye. Lee and Ha picked up wins over UW-Eau Claire’s Anna Lee and Liv Herzog (8-3), Carroll College’s (Wis.) Natasa Pupovac and Madison Ostrander (8-0) and Grinnell College’s (Iowa) Isa Voinescu and Paige Sargent (8-2). In the semifinal, Lee and Ha fell to the two-seed Kelsey Dorr and Sofia Walker of St. Catherine University (Minn.) 8-4.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Offense
Ashley Kopp, Junior (Muskego, Wis./Muskego), Outside Hitter of UW-Stevens Point
Kopp hit .369 over four matches, all wins by sweeps, for the Pointers during the week. She racked up a double-double in the conference opener with a match-best 20 kills and 12 digs in the 3-0 win over UW-River Falls. On Sept 22, she posted her ninth double-double of the season with 19 kills and 12 more digs, while hitting a season-high .548. Kopp finished the week as the only player in double digits with 16 kills against Aurora University (Ill.) and 10 against Simpson College (Iowa). She added a block in each match and served three aces on the week.

Fregien led the No. 3-ranked Titans to a 4-0 record on the road during the week, including a sweep of No. 7-ranked UW-Whitewater on Sept. 20. It was UW-Oshkosh’s first sweep of the Warhawks since the 1994 WIAC Tournament title match. She averaged 4.23 digs per set, including 16 against Ripon College (Wis.) and a season-high 24 digs against Aurora University (Ill.), both at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Sept. 23.
