General 8/2/2023 10:10:54 AM Alisha Markley Named WIAC Strategic Communications & Championships Intern MADISON, Wis.--Alisha Markley has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Strategic Communications and Championships Intern. Markley’s position with the conference office officially began on August 1, and has been made possible through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority & Women's Internship Grant. The program is intended to provide opportunities for women and ethnic minorities to gain experience in college athletics. As part of the internship, Markley will also have a mentorship with UW-Whitewater Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ryan Callahan and UW-Platteville Assistant Athletic Director for Strategic Communications, Marketing and Branding/Sports Information Director Lindsay Dietmeier. Markley is a graduate of Dominican University in River Forest, Ill., where she earned her bachelor’s degree in informatics with a minor in mathematics. She went on to pursue a master of information management from Dominican University’s school of Library of Information Studies. During Markley’s time at Dominican, she represented the women’s basketball program for five years, finishing third on the program’s career scoring list with 1,106 points and second with 182 three-pointers made. Markley claimed All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference first team honors in 2020 and 2021, while earning second team status in 2022. A native of Rushville, Ind., Markley’s passion for sports expanded past the basketball court as she was given the opportunity to serve as the Sports Information Intern and Game Day Assistant at Dominican, while also serving as the Game Day Assistant for the University of Chicago. Her responsibilities during her time as the Sports Information Intern entailed updating Stars schedules and rosters on the website, writing press releases, inputting statistics during various sporting events, and overseeing student workers. At the University of Chicago, her duties involved all sports information aspects of men’s and women’s basketball, as well as softball. “We are extremely fortunate to have received the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority & Women’s Internship Grant, and have Alisha join our staff,” commented WIAC Commissioner Danielle Harris. “This position will not only benefit Alisha, but our membership and the Division III community, given her experiences as a student-athlete.” # # # # #
