Julie Carlson Named WIAC Coordinator of Women’s Lacrosse Officials

MADISON, Wis.--Julie Carlson has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) coordinator of women’s lacrosse officials as the conference begins its inaugural season sponsoring women’s lacrosse during the 2023-24 academic year.
 
Carlson has been involved in officiating for over 40 years. Her experiences include the sports of lacrosse, basketball, softball and volleyball. She began officiating lacrosse in 1998, and has worked numerous NCAA, college club, high school and youth contests.
 
Carlson was the original college assignor for the college club Minnesota universities with the Minnesota Lacrosse Umpires Association (MLUA) in 2003, and has been involved with the MLUA since 1998. She has served as Chair and Vice Chair for the MLUA.
 
She has worked as a certified women’s lacrosse trainer and observer for USA Lacrosse since 2020. In this role, Carlson has created and coordinated field scrimmages for new and experienced lacrosse referees to meet certification requirements at the high school and youth levels in the Upper Midwest. Additionally, she has helped assign mentors to all interested referees to reference during the season. Carlson has served as a girl’s lacrosse rules committee member for the National Federation of State High School Associations since 2012.

Carlson resides in St. Paul, Minn., and graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor of science degree in business administration (marketing) and a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish.
