Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - November 13

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of November 6 - 12.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Logan Pearson, Senior (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly), Forward of UW-Platteville
Pearson averaged 22.0 points per game on a 61.5 field goal percentage as the Pioneers opened the season with wins over Saint Mary's University (Minn.) and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). He scored 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting on Nov. 10, in the win over the Cardinals before posting 25 points on 8-of-14 against the Gusties on Nov. 11. Pearson added 2.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game and added three blocked shots and three steals.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Raegan Sorensen, Junior (Centuria, Wis./Unity), Guard of UW-Stout
Sorensen led UW-Stout to a pair of season-opening wins during the week at the UW-Eau Claire Tip-Off Tournament. Against Central College (Iowa), she had a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double. Sorensen shot 10-of-15 from the field, grabbed 11 rebounds, and contributed three blocked shots and two steals. Against (RV) University of Puget Sound (Wash.), she was 7-of-14 for 16 points, grabbed five rebounds, and added three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

FOOTBALL
Offense
Kobe Berghammer, Senior (Clayton, Wis./Cumberland), Quarterback of UW-Oshkosh
Berghammer completed 25-of-38 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns in the Titans’ 38-31 win over No. 11-ranked UW-River Falls at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Nov. 11. His scoring passes were thrown for two and 56 yards. Berghammer also added 46 yards and one touchdown on 11 attempts.

Defense

Schumacher led the Falcon defense at UW-Oshkosh with his third interception of the season, along with two pass breakups and a career-high 10 tackles. He led the team with 59 tackles this season and tied for team lead with three interceptions.

Mobley converted all of his kicking attempts for eight points in the Titans’ 38-31 win over No. 11-ranked UW-River Falls at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Nov. 11. He scored on five extra-point attempts and kicked a 24-yard field goal with 1:42 remaining in the second quarter. He also kicked off seven times, averaging 49.1 yards with a touchback.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Boyd Stahlbaum, Freshman (Peterborough, Ontario/Holy Cross Catholic Secondary), Forward of UW-Stout
Stahlbaum totaled seven points, (3 goals, 4 assists) on six shots in three games during the week. Against UW-River Falls (who was receiving votes in the USCHO.com poll) on Nov. 7, he had an assist in a 5-2 road win. In two road games at Lake Forest College (Ill.), Stahlbaum had three goals and three assists in a 6-2 win on Nov. 10, and 6-3 triumph on Nov. 11.

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Rose Beeman, Senior (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde St.-Margaret), Goalie of UW-Superior
In the only game of the week, Beeman was strong in goal for the Yellowjackets. In the conference opener at UW-Eau Claire on Nov. 11, she had 40 shots come her way, and turned aside 36, including 25 in the final two periods of the game, but the Yellowjackets couldn’t hold a late lead and fell to the Blugolds 4-2.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Kadin Denner, Junior (Aurora, Colo./Aurora), of UW-Eau Claire
Denner won all three individual events he swam during a 218-82 dual victory against Saint John’s University (Minn.) on Nov. 11, posting WIAC-leading times in each. He posted a 9:56.06 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and is the only swimmer under 10:00 in the event in the conference. He won the 200-yard breaststroke by five seconds, clocking in at 2:09.78 — the top time in the WIAC. He also won the 400-yard individual medley by nine seconds, finishing in 4:13.33 for the top time in the conference. Denner was also a member of the Blugolds’ second-place 400-yard medley relay.

Diving
Blake Wallen, Freshman (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake), of UW-Eau Claire
Wallen swept both boards for the second straight meet, winning both one-meter and three-meter competitions in a dual victory over Saint John’s University (Minn.) on Nov. 11. He scored a 267.05 on the one-meter and a 272.10 on the three-meter.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Molly Hosack, Sophomore (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg), of UW-Eau Claire
Hosack posted a conference-leading time in the 500-yard freestyle during a triangular against St. Catherine University (Minn.) and the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) on Nov. 11. She clocked in at 5:21.25 to win the event. She also placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 2:00.37.

Diving
Abbi Priestley, Sophomore (Neenah, Wis./Neenah), of UW-Oshkosh
Priestley broke her own school record with a first-place score of 456.68 in the one-meter diving at the Lawrence University (Wis.) Gene Davis Invitational on Nov. 11. She also grabbed the three-meter crown with a 440.85 point performance.

WRESTLING
Justin Fortugno, Sophomore (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills), 141 pounds of UW-Whitewater
Fortugno claimed the 141-pound Elite title at the Luther College (Iowa) Open on Nov. 11. He posted a 5-0 record at the event. Fortugno opened with a technical fall and followed with a major decision. He topped a pair of Division II opponents by decision to secure his spot in the championship bout where he defeated No. 10-ranked Nico Diaz of Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) by 8-6 decision to claim the title.
