MADISON, Wis.
--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Jessie Ruden and UW-Whitewater’s Aleah Grundahl were chosen the Co-Players of the Year to lead the individuals selected to the 2022 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Basketball Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-Stout’s Raegan Sorensen was tabbed the Newcomer of the Year and UW-Whitewater’s Keri Carollo the Coach of the Year.

Ruden secured first teams honors for the second straight year and leads the conference with 18.8 points per game, 77 three-point field goals made and 36.2 minutes per contest, while ranking fourth with a .803 free-throw percentage and eighth with a .350 three-point field goal percentage. She has eclipsed the 20-point mark in 12 of 28 contests, including a career-high 31 points in the title game of the WIAC Tournament. Ruden’s eight three-point field goals against St. Norbert College (Wis.) on Nov. 23, 2021, rank second in conference archives.

Grundahl secured first team recognition for the second consecutive year after being selected the Newcomer of the Year in 2020. She tops the conference with 64 steals and a .506 field goal percentage (170 of 336), while ranking third with 16.4 points per contest and eighth with a .777 free-throw shooting percentage. Grundahl has reached double figures in scoring in 24 of 27 games, including a career-high 28 points against UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 8, 2022.

Repeat selections on the first team from the 2021 campaign included: UW-La Crosse’s Emma Gamoke; UW-Oshkosh’s Leah Porath (Player of the Year); UW-Platteville’s Maiah Domask; and UW-Whitewater’s Johanna Taylor. Porath (Player of the Year), Domask and Taylor were also first team choices in 2020, along with UW-Stevens Point’s Taylor Greenheck. Gamoke and Domask added first team laurels in 2019. Domask is the first Pioneer to earn first team status four times.

Sorensen ranks 10th in the WIAC with 12.2 points per game and she added four double-doubles. Her 36 points against Aurora University (Ill.) on Dec. 28, 2021, are the most in the conference this season. A Newcomer of the Year is defined as a student-athlete who used her first season of participation in women’s basketball this season. Transfers are not eligible unless they didn’t participate in women’s basketball at their previous institution.

UW-Oshkosh’s Abby Kaiser and Julia Silloway were repeat selections on the five-member all-defensive team, along with UW-Whitewater’s Taylor. Taylor also received the honor in 2020.

Carollo claimed the coaching honor for the fifth time in her career and third time in the last five seasons. She has directed the Warhawks to a 23-4 record and a bid into the NCAA Division III Championship. UW-Whitewater collected the 10th WIAC regular-season championship in program history and has eclipsed 20 wins for the 12th time in the last 15 years.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
