Student-Athlete Spotlight: Jacob Halvorson, UW-Stout

Why did you choose UW-Stout?
I chose UW-Stout because of the unique Applied Math and Computer Science major, the applied/hands-on feel of a polytechnic university, and the close proximity to home.
 
What other clubs/organizations on campus are you involved in?
I am involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee on campus.
 
What causes do you care about?
Some causes that I care about are making sports/hockey more accessible for all people, researching to find a cure for Alzheimer’s and supporting individuals with diabetes.

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
The thing I like most about competing in the WIAC is the great competition where any team can win on any given night. The thing I like most about being a NCAA Division III student-athlete is having the ability to showcase my talents in the classroom and on the ice.

Going to the Minnesota State Tournament for hockey my junior year of high school.

Favorite thing to do off the ice with my teammates is play basketball.

What is your dream job? 
Data Scientist for a NHL team.
 
Three things on your "bucket list"?
---Snowboard in the Swiss Alps.
---Visit all 32 NHL arenas.
---Fly a plane.
 
A non-athletic talent that you have is?
Using computer programming to make games.

Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they?
Before games, I like to have a Jimmy John’s sandwich, foam roll, and ride the stationary bike.
