Kansas is a member of the Big 12 Conference, a "Power Five" league within the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Leipold played four years as a quarterback for the Warhawks from 1983-86, served as an assistant coach during the 1987, 1988 and 1990 seasons, and returned to UW-Whitewater as head coach in 2007, when he started an incredible run at the helm of the program. In Leipold's eight years as head coach, the Warhawks posted a 109-6 record (.948 winning percentage), claimed six NCAA Division III national championships and won seven Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) titles. Leipold was named WIAC George Chryst Coach of the Year four times and was a six-time national coach of the year. In 2014, Leipold earned his 100th career victory as a head coach in his 106th game, becoming the fastest in NCAA football history to reach the 100-win plateau. Two months later, after leading UW-Whitewater to its sixth national championship in eight years, Leipold assumed the position of head football coach at the University at Buffalo. During his six-season run in Buffalo, Leipold helped the Bulls post a 30-16 record over his final four seasons, including three bowl appearances and two bowl victories. He led UB to back-to-back Mid-American Conference East Division titles in 2019 and 2020, earning MAC Coach of the Year accolades in both years. Leipold is the 41st coach in Kansas Football history. # # # # #
