--University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Adam Fravert and UW-Platteville’s Carter Voelker were tabbed Co-Players of the Year to top the individuals selected to the 2020 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Basketball Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-Oshkosh’s Levi Borchert was chosen the Newcomer of the Year and UW-Platteville’s Jeff Gard the Coach of the Year.

Fravert secured first team recognition for the second straight year and becomes the sixth player in program archives to receive Player of the Year status, joining John Lallensack (1968), Ralph Sims (1977 and 1978), Tim Dworak (2002 and 2003), D.J. Marsh (2009) and Ben Boots (2019). He has reached double figures in scoring in 25 of 27 contests and surpassed the 20-point mark in 10 games, including a season-high 37 points against LaGrange College (Ga.) on Dec. 30, 2019. Fravert has produced a league-best 12 double-doubles (points-rebounds) and grabbed a season-best 14 rebounds against UW-Eau Claire on Feb. 29. He also earned a spot on the All-Defensive Team for the second straight year.

Voelker claimed first team accolades for the second consecutive season and becomes the 10th Pioneer to secure Player of the Year honors, joining Steve Kundert (1974), Steve Showalter (1988), T.J. Van Wie (1993), Ernie Peavy (1995), Ben Hoffmann (1998), Merrill Brunson (1999), Jeff Skemp (2009), Chas Cross (2013) and Robert Duax (2018). Voelker leads the WIAC with 95 assists and a 1.90 assist/turnover ratio, while ranking fourth with 6.5 rebounds per contest, seventh with 15.5 points per game and 10th with a .731 free-throw percentage (76-of-104).

He has achieved double figures in scoring in 21 of 26 games and exceeded 20 points in seven games, including a season-best 30 points against UW-River Falls on Feb. 15. Voelker hauled in a season-best 13 rebounds in two games.

This is the seventh time in conference history that the Player of the Year award has been shared.

Borchert tops the WIAC with a .667 field goal percentage (102-of-153), while ranking seventh with 6.2 rebounds per contest. He had also added 9.1 points per game. A Newcomer of the Year is defined as a student-athlete who used his first season of participation in men’s basketball this season.

Repeat selections on the first team from a season ago included: UW-Eau Claire’s Cole Rabedeaux; UW-Oshkosh’s Jack Flynn; and UW-Stevens Point’s Ethan Bublitz. Flynn was also a first team selection in 2018, while Bublitz added first team distinction in 2017.

Gard was selected the Coach of the Year for the second time in the last three seasons after leading the Pioneers to the 21st regular-season conference title in program archives. UW-Platteville’s 22 wins are the third-most for the program in the last 21 seasons. The Pioneers also secured a spot in the NCAA Division III Championship for the third straight year – and 13th time overall.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
