Women's Soccer 11/13/2019 1:03:15 PM All-WIAC Women’s Soccer Team Announced Printable version of the 2019 All-WIAC Women's Soccer Team MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Anna Brodjian was selected the Offensive Player of the Year, while UW-La Crosse’s Katie Feller and UW-Stevens Point’s Meaghan Ambelang were chosen Co-Defensive Players of the Year to lead the individuals picked to the 2019 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Soccer Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-La Crosse’s Sydney Halstead received Newcomer of the Year recognition, while UW-Whitewater secured Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Brodjian is the fifth player in program history to receive the offensive honor. She has compiled a league-high 12 goals and 26 points this season, including three game-winning goals. Brodjian has recorded at least one point in nine matches and had a season-high six points (on three goals) at UW-River Falls on Nov. 2. This marks the second time in league history that the defensive award has been shared (2015). Feller is the fourth Eagle to claim the defensive distinction, while Ambelang is the first Pointer. Feller spearheaded a UW-La Crosse defense that posted a conference-best 10 shutouts, including a streak of seven consecutive scoreless matches. The Eagles ranked second in the league with a 0.86 goals against average. Ambelang secured first team honors for the second straight year and recorded three assists. Her defensive efforts helped UW-Stevens Point post eight shutouts and rank third in the conference with a 0.91 goals against average. Halstead is one of four freshmen on the 22-member team. She recorded two goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal against Illinois Wesleyan University on Sept. 7. A Newcomer of the Year is defined as a student-athlete who used her first season of participation in women’s soccer this season. Repeat selections on the first team from a season ago included: UW-Eau Claire’s Emily Sullivan; UW-La Crosse’s Kaitlyn Villars; UW-Oshkosh’s Mallory Knight; UW-River Falls’ Maggie Koehler and Mariah Troje; UW-Stevens Point’s Kaitlyn Hess; and UW-Whitewater’s Anna Boyd. Sullivan, Villars and Boyd added first team honors in 2017, along with UW-Oshkosh’s Addie Schmitz, while Sullivan and UW-Whitewater’s Sara Klimisch were first team picks in 2016 and Koehler in 2015. Sullivan becomes the second Blugold to secure first team recognition all four seasons, joining Allison Smith (2005-08). Coaching Staff of the Year accolades were presented to UW-Whitewater after it claimed the ninth WIAC regular-season championship and fifth tournament title in program history. The Warhawks enter the NCAA Division III Championship having won or tied 14 of their last 15 matches after starting the season 2-4-1. The staff includes: head coach Ryan Quamme; assistant coach Ben John; assistant coach Carly Pottle; and assistant coach Ralph Tooren. An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.
