Jim Lund Women's Tennis 10/28/2019 9:15:46 AM UW-La Crosse’s Andersen Named Judy Kruckman Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Maura Andersen has been selected the recipient of the 2019 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete Award. A senior from La Crosse, Wis. (Central), Andersen holds a 3.86 grade point average and is majoring in statistics with an actuarial science and economics emphasis and a Spanish minor. She is a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete and three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Andersen has been recognized on UW-La Crosse’s Dean’s List numerous semesters and a participant in the Eagle Apprenticeship Program. She is a recipient of the Wisconsin Excellence Award, David M. Cole Award, as well as academic scholarships from her institution. Andersen, a team captain this season, secured the No. 2 singles title at this year’s WIAC championship and placed third at No. 2 doubles. She was the No. 3 doubles champion a season ago and has posted runner-up finishes at No. 4 singles (2018), No. 5 singles (2016) and No. 3 doubles (2017). Andersen was a member of the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team in 2018 and selected UW-La Crosse’s Female Rookie of the Year for the 2016-17 academic year. She is a member of UW-La Crosse’s American Red Cross Club and Eta Phi Alpha Honors Society. In addition, Andersen serves as an actuarial intern and statistics tutor on campus. Also nominated for this year’s scholar-athlete award were: UW-Eau Claire’s Natalie Wijesinghe (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.); UW-Oshkosh’s Samantha Koppa (Sr., Cedarburg, Wis.); and UW-Whitewater’s Madeline Slicker (Sr., Mequon, Wis./Homestead). The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman, who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October, 1984 - September, 1996. Kruckman was the women’s athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971. In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years. # # # # #
