Skarda was named the WIAC coordinator of wrestling officials in August 2022. He has served as a collegiate wrestling official since 1992 and WIAC wrestling official since 1998. He has been selected to officiate the conference championship 16 times. Skarda has worked three national championships, including the NCAA Division III Championship in 2018, the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Championship in 2020, and National Junior College Athletic Association Championship in 2022.
In addition, Skarda has officiated the NCAA Division III national qualifiers since 2000, NWCA National Duals since 2012, Wheaton College (Ill.) Invitational since 1997, and Midlands Championships from 2007-17. He has served as an official with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association since 1997 and worked four state championships, while mentoring many new officials.
Skarda is a board member for the Mid States Wrestling Officials Association and member of the Inter-Collegiate Wrestling Officials Association.
Skarda joined the U.S. Navy as a sonar technician from 1984-88. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from UW-Parkside and was a member of the wrestling team. Skarda also received a teaching licensure in learning disabilities from UW-Oshkosh.
He resides in Menasha with his wife Cheryl. They have a daughter Brittany, a son Zach, and three grandchildren.
